Hi

I've been building a car for a while now using an me7 engine and was wondering if I could use the dizzy and management from an 850 on the later engine. I do have an OMEX 710 but am now thinking of using this on another project.

Cheers

In a word. No. The head will have vvt which the me 4.x ECU won't be able to cope with. I strongly suspect that would be the thin edge of the wedge.

You can drop an 850 head on a me7 bottom end then run it on a me4.x ECU, there's plenty who've done that.

All the best, Morgan

surely the vvt can be blanked/modified to allow the head to be used, sure Colin has done something like this with the T-10's front engine, not actually studied the vvt set up but there must be ways to blank it

Well, mine seems to work just fine :) if you look closely, you will see a distributor and plug leads plus twin vvc solenoids (blanked off)

thought remembered rightly, but was not sure whether yours was single or dual vvt, is the back one the same Colin ??

Rear engine is bog standard at the moment.

You run it down the track yet?

Thanks for the information that gives me another option now. I'll need to find all the bits and pieces if I go with the 850 management.
Next question will be do I need to get round an immobiliser to run the 850 system.

Just make sure you have a mapped ecu, that will almost certainly have the immobilizer disabled.

Fair enough..every day's a day at school :)...if anybody was going to find a work around it was going to be you Colin!

Personally I'd still go with an me 4.x head to match the ECU. But if the vvt delete will work then the OP has plenty of options.

What sort of money will I be looking at for a mapped ECU?

Also what is involved in blanking the VVT I only have it on the exhaust cam?

Cheers Nigel

Unless you have the custom Vvt pulley delete, I have one in the loft from when rob made them.

you don't need to be that complicated, just cut out all the center from the rubber gasket under the solenoid.
