So if anyone has seen my other thread about my 2003 R well this is what use to run around in on a daily basis.

This is how it looked the day I got it (late June).

I used my sonic for 3 years as a daily, school runs etc which it was brilliant at, but bought an xc90 now which does all the family work and it now sits outside and covered only 700 miles this year.

Although the car is high mileage (87K) the carpets are in remarkable condition. The car hasn't been smoked in so it all cleaned up pretty well.

Oh I nearly forgot, the car.

Well as it happens it's had a bit of money spent on it a few years ago. Firstly it had a new engine, turbo, E.C.U & every sensor replaced at Volvo, cost £12K!
It also has an M.T.E map & a Tim Williams inter cooler & shimmed block now.

I always service my cars as well as thoroughly clean them, so I carried out a full engine service as well replace the M.A.F & one way valves (these cause a lot of problems on the V.A.G stuff, hence why I change them every year or so)

I had bought these for my other car, but to be honest I DONT they suited it quite right.
So this how they ended up on this car.

Yes, that would be interesting. I'm aware of a cheap alternative for earlier cars but not one that works with facelifts.

I assume that's sponge's old car?

I have an absolute limit of 5 cars and bought a manual s60r 2005 to mess about with on up and coming volvo track days I'm organising, I could drive it to Sweden, but before buying I was looking at v8 xc90s they're very nice, I missed out on one a while back.

Been thinking about a t6 xc60 but again bought a T5r which I'm just about finished with and willl be moving on.

Btw xc90 is old and now sorted mechanically, only meant to be a cheap daily but does everything, wife's newish low miles car doesn't get used. They are so practical and comfy I did 1100 miles in one day only stopping for fuel, that was solo driving.

Unfortunately I'm limited to 2, well maybe 3 at a push due to space I'm afraid. I'm hoping to move house in the new year which once I've had a garage built I should be able to have a couple more.

I've also fancied an old T5'r, maybe next year ? I've noticed there creeping up in value though. As it happens I have a friend who lives in Japan who is in the export business. Depending on how my house project goes I am hoping to get out there and hopefully find a decent example to bring back.

Yeah there nasty aren't they!

I've got a new bonnet lined up for it, just need to get it painted.

I really wouldn't recommend them unless you only use your car in the summer, one of them allows water to drop on the E.C.M!

OK, so not a lot has been going on. This week I started on getting the car ready for winter, as they say 'It's Grim Up North' well it certainly has been this week with temps dropping below Zero over night BRRRR!!!!.

I got a set of Team Dynamics rims a couple of months ago as they were in the sale & I couldn't find any 17" Pegs which were my first choice. Also at £100 a piece they worked out less expensive than a set of Pegs that would of needed a refurb.
So I finally got around to fitting the tyres this week.

I went for Uniroyal MS77 tyres this time, I've ran the rain sports for years with no issue, so thought I'd try these (had Yokohama's last year which I did not get on with).

I also sealed the rims prior to fitting to try and give them some extra protection.

I always run a flush prior to dropping the oil, I changed the oil & filter when I purchased the car in June, I've only done 2K, in the last 3 months! I try to do an oil & filter change every 3K or 3 months as a rule.
As this my daily I use Mann & Hummel filters as the a little cheaper, they are also O.E equipment filters which means the packaging is different but the filter is the same. Ironically plugs are cheaper for me to buy from Volvo trade club so I only fit genuine. I also 'Bulk' bought 100 alloy sump plug washers (not pictured) as these should be changed every oil change.

And finally a grubby engine bay shot, really need to get the bonnet sorted as those pesky vents have caused some severe oxidisation!

So that was last week, I plan on changing the A.O.C oil & filter & rear diff oil next weekend as the prop & exhaust have to be removed :(

Oh I also stripped, cleaned, chamfered & greased all the brake pads as the squeal quite badly, I sourced some high temp ceramic brake grease from the state's, it seemed to work O.K on some of the Porsche's we have through the workshop, but sadly a day later mine started squealing again!
I think it will be something I'm just going to have to live with, or I might try another pad (DS2500) ? Maybe ?

Pagid pads by any chance?

Xc90 and V70r both have pagid and neither squeal and never have done.

V70r has pagid discs and pads and xc90 had pagid disks or pads (can't remember which).

Pagid pads by any chance?

No, it has Carbotech XP12 pads & discs on the front, that is where the squeal is.

Was looking at the Pagid RS4-2 pads but I assumed they would the same as the Carbotechs as they are a more focused track pad.

I have used the standard pagid stuff from E.C.P previously without any problems though.

So nothing really exciting has gone on, I had a new screen fitted as it had a couple of chips and it has been an advisory on the M.O.T for the last 6 years !
I have also had the wheel alignment checked & adjusted as it has been six years since that was last checked.
Yesterday I finally got round to changing the A.O.C oil & filter.

Oh I almost forgot, when I first got the car it came up with an "ANTI SKID SERVICE REQUIRED" warning.
Fault code BCM-130 Brake pressure sender 1 signal too low.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/BOSOZOKU-1/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1495_zpspca5gazl.jpg (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/BOSOZOKU-1/media/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1495_zpspca5gazl.jpg.html)
Having tried several times to clear the fault I spoke with a specialist I know who advised me to recalibrate the BCM unit. And low & behold it worked!
Anyway that was 3 months ago, whilst on my journey to the alignment shop the fault returned!
So when I looked at the live data I was getting a massively different reading.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/BOSOZOKU-1/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1485_zpsviwoqocv.jpg (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/BOSOZOKU-1/media/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1485_zpsviwoqocv.jpg.html)
So I swapped the wires round & the reading moved round, thus pinpointing the fault to the sender itself!

I bought this about 3 months ago but never got round to fitting it.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/BOSOZOKU-1/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1493_zps5ea2mgwj.jpg (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/BOSOZOKU-1/media/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1493_zps5ea2mgwj.jpg.html)
If I remember rightly it was about £170! (Is there nothing for these cars that's not around £200!)
So it was a simple swap over job, I had an assistant add a little pressure to the brake pedal whilst I swapped them over, this meant I did not need to bleed the whole brake system.
This is the offending culprit.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/BOSOZOKU-1/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1505_zpsp0f4prck.jpg (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/BOSOZOKU-1/media/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1505_zpsp0f4prck.jpg.html)
So once fitted & calibrated I checked the readings again.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/BOSOZOKU-1/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1501_zpsx5hsyhmn.jpg (http://s32.photobucket.com/user/BOSOZOKU-1/media/S60R%20Sonic%20Blue/IMAG1501_zpsx5hsyhmn.jpg.html)
So that was that, a reasonably productive weekend, I still have couple of jobs left, like fitting a phone kit, relocating the sensors back to the struts (currently under the bottom arms) & fitting the IPD boost gauge I got for the 2003 "R" earlier this year.

Just to add there is a filter fitted to the electric oil pump pick up which should be cleaned, but you need to remove the prop shaft then the AOC input drive to remove the pump.

I'm pretty certain (well I took the flange off of mine ) that there is in sufficient clearance so the filter won't come out with the prop flange in place. It was about 8 months ago when changed it on my 2003 car.

So why have I removed this performance mod, well where I live we get a lot of rain! So this is not really ideal. I guess if you were in a warmer climate or you only used your vehicle during the summer months I guess it would be fine, maybe ?
I believe there are a few vendors who sell such a kit. I honestly can't say that the car drives any worse for removing it.

There are a couple of jobs left to do, hopefully have those done in the next week or so, then I can make a start on my 2003 R!

Yes you don't really want water ingress if it's wet where you live. Where did you find Airbox? I'm guessing be more difficult to get them now.

Volvo call it a DEM pump. 'Differential Electronic Module' pump and they are £270 from Volvo! £90 cheaper than Skandix. Part# is 30783079.

You may as well have a main dealer do the job as you'll also need a litre of AOC oil £13 and the AOC filter £21. You'll also need the DEM pump software too.

So all the parts alone are £300 plus VAT.

Not sure why, but a freebie is a freebie & us northerners like a bargain.

Used some sticky back velcro to affix it to the T.V Tuner so as not to have it rattling round in the boot.

I will add the rest of progress over the weekend.
I am hoping to take the car off of the road at the begin of July for some much needed T.L.C.

I also replaced the horns with these

If there good enough for the WRC boys well there good enough for me!

Anyhows it would appear that Volvo use a 2 pin connector on the O.E horns as opposed to a pair of spade terminals.
So as I did NOT want to damage the original harness I manufactured some adapter leads.

So these were a tad too long !

So ended making these with a bit of heat shrink for added protection (having issues finding stuff on my workshop as I don't get to spend so much time there now, ironically I found the plastic trunking I initially wanted to put on these the other day! Typical)

So are they any better, well they were better than the old ones as only the high tone worked and it was some what asthmatic!

Another job that needed sorting was the airbox. The previous owner had affixed a six inch piece of ducting to the lower portion of the airbox and routed the other end to the side of the foglight behind the grill!
This is the offending item:

And an unbutchered airbox!

I had to remove very similar from one of the s60r's

It's a good idea but since owning my CFE, I found that you'll need to remove it fairly regularly to change settings and also when you need to update the firmware (which has been 3 times so far).

There's enough length in the OBD extender cable to route the CFE further back and be accessed via the left hand access panel. Having it where you have it now, means having to unbolt the side trim and lot's of mucking about.
I have mine resting on a piece of black Volvo packing foam and this prevents it from rattling around and also means I can access it quickly and easily.

It's stuck to the TOP of the T.V tuner so all that is required is to open up the side panel.

But like you say it is advisable to have easy access, I've adjusted the settings 3 flipping times already & still haven't got the autolock function working!

Seen as winter is out of the way I thought I would FINALLY get the front bumper painted as the canards were scraped when I bought it & when it was on the 17" winters it got caught a couple of times
