Driving an M reg T5 auto estate 106k, started ok from cold drove the car 1/2 a mile started to cough and splutter was able to turn car around and get it back home? The weather had been very damp and wet the past 3 days, and the radiator fan had packed up two days before so disconected ready for replacement. Ticks over ok at low revs until I put foot down on accelarator, the starts chugging and spluttering again any ideas?

Checked the fault code came up with a 4-1-4 fault too much boost on Turbo? Got the car to start now, floored the accelarator to max revs and blew out a load of water and black dust not oil out of the exhaust and seems to run ok now? The boost gauge seems to move more freely.. Just a volvo gremlin that happens every so often to test you ....

Sounds like a mixture or sensor issue.

Have you read/had read the fault codes? Always the first point of call. Plenty of threads about how to read the codes on the earlier 850's if you use the search function.

Something amiss with the ignition system, IMHO. Check plugs, HT leads (they might be breaking down under load), dissy cap rotor. Main suspect is the leads, but it is difficult to say without seeing the car and going through the other parts first. You can buy an lead tester (like a pen) which flashes as the spark is past.
