Cars been driving well and went to start it this morning before going to work and it started and cut out about 20 secs on three attempts with the Mel light and limp mode light coming on. Have unplugged the lead to the maf and it runs without cutting out. I have bought some contact cleaner and cleaned the maf and will see what happens tmrw. Any thoughts welcomed.

On the side of your MAF there is a part number. It should say Bosch, then a direction of air flow arrow, then a long part number. What's the number?

Good morning the number is 0280 217 107, there's a number underneath that which reads 1275 749.
Many thanks

Used one on ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-V70-S70-C70-T5-Genuine-Bosch-MAF-Sensor-1275749-/400960154111?fits=Model%3AV70&hash=item5d5b1669ff:g:-ywAAOSwjVVVqpo-

Genuine Bosch from carparts4less (plus £15 off if you enter code CP15LESS):
http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/cp4l/c/Volvo_V70_2.3_1997/p/car-parts/engine-parts/fuel-and-engine-management/engine-management-sensor/?434660280&1&836ecee167711fc3edad07bc4b49f7f5c46504d6&000009

Interesting that there are different part numbers for the MAFs for the same engines..

I bought the CRC MAF cleaner for my p1 V70 R but would contact cleaner basically have done the same? I keep getting the P0172 rich running code, but after the last MAF sensor clean it didn't reappear for 700-800 miles, which is the longest that it's gone. I'm now replacing lots of vac hose in case I have a leak somewhere as well.

I cleaned it with contact cleaner and it did improve it slightly but it still cuts out when maf plugged in. Funny thing is the day before there was no real symptons apart from the slight hunting and that was minimal and sometimes.

I wouldn't buy a second had MAF, else you'll be in the same boat as you are now in a week or two.

They cost approx. £300 inc vat from Volvo (without discounts).

BuycarpartsUK don't have any MAFs in stock, so the only place I would buy from would be...

http://www.autodoc.co.uk/bosch/1150490?grmk=1&gclid=CIjA7Jmryc0CFRUW0woduFoFhg

You also get a 2 year warranty :B_thumb:

This will save you about £50 instead of buying from those cheesy t wat s at ECP's! (Don't they all just look and sound like bloody Estate agents!!! "Buy, buy...Sell, sell!!!...")

All the ones on Ebay around the £24-£60 mark, claiming to be brand new! BS. They are cheap Chinese rubbish and not genuine Bosch, Avoid!

Contact cleaner tends to leave a film on the sensor, brake cleaner then a wash in clean water works for me.

As far as I can tell, my car is still on it's original maf (no mention of a change in the plod service history) and it's approaching 223000 miles. I clean it when I change the filter. (sometimes)
