View Full Version : Wheel bolt torque settings

Just heard a horror story from a work colleague about the torque setting tyre bays use to replace wheels. Apparently their 'AIR GUNS' are set to a torque setting for STEEL WHEELS.

He had his tyres replaced on his alloy wheel, and a week later one of the wheels cracked around the bolt holes luckily at a low speed, neither he nor his family were hurt and the car just 'sat down' onto the broken hub.

In the Haynes it lists 140 Nm or 103 lbft but doesn't state whether steel or alloy wheel?

Can anyone clarify correct ALLOY torques please?

140 Nm sounds high for an alloy, my baby windy gun can only manage about 100 Nm, have a look at the comments in JT's thread below
