s 60r in garage Monday!

Taking my car in monday (s60r) to garage to get engine management light and abs looked at'is there anything else I should tell my mechanic to check over as I have only just got the car after selling my c70t5'would rather get him to check everything over while its in there'if anyone can think off anything
please let me know thanks!

Is it a general garage or are they specialising in Volvo's .

They do specialise in volvo and bmw I just wanted to know some info my self so I was not going in blind really!��

Codes read is a must. Other than that, making sure nothing is weeping/leaking, the AWD system is good, no weird noises and the all the electrics work.

Engine light could be anything but in my experience its usually something to do with the emission system.

ABS light, probably not the BCs (As a lot more things wouldbe visually apparent on the dash board) so sensors, rings is the most likely cause. (Though diagnostic will show which wheel is at fault).

Not an exhaustive list, but..stuff like this I'd be looking at...


I thought I posted this before somewhere but I can't see it, anyway...Stage Zero for an S60R thou shalt be doing:

*Checks for split liners: temp gauge, hardened top rad hose, fast accumulation of pressure in expansion tank from cold, using coolant, sniff test (thanks Stribo)
*Headlight adjustment - looking pretty low
*Angle gear, haldex & rear diff oil change
*4-wheel alignment
*PCV vacuum check/replace
*Codes read/software update
*Check & replace spark plugs
*Air, fuel and oil filter service
*Trans fluid flush
*Inspect & replace vacuum lines and IC piping rubber
*Upgrade to silicone hoses where possible...hmm, do IPD sell hoses...?
*Test / replace 02 sensors
*Verify proper fuel flow using a fuel pressure tester and replace fuel pumps if needed
*Clean / replace injectors
*Clean intercooler / intercooler plumbing
*Compression and cylinder leak down test

That was from a while ago when I briefly owned an S60R - it was a 6-speed auto hence the comment about the ATF

If you've only just bought the car then having the garage read the codes is one thing but whether they come back once you drive out the garage...is another!
With such a short ownership you really won't know anything about the car. Bit like a bird, I suppose.

Let the garage do their thing and I would ask them to check out anything other than a brief visual inspection to check for any visible leaks.

Once you're in the driving seat, you really must have the car fully serviced (unless you've a FVSH). Then a "stage 0". Then, as I told BigGreg, you gotta live with the car for about 6 months and learn it's niggles, groans and moans and then start making a list. It won't hurt to have a full wheel alignment done at a reputable garage as this will go a long way in helping you ascertain any drivetrain problems or steering issues. Insure the tyres are the right pressure, cold (35psi on an R) and that you have good tread and no bald spots, bulges in the side wall etc.

After 6 months you'll know how your car performs and will know how it works, how much oil it consumes etc. Then you should have what will be the start of a never ending long list that will no doubt take you years to get to the end of, LOL.

Seriously, don't even think about modding your car until after this 6 month period, otherwise you'll be forever chasing your tale and the car will just never be right.

One more thing.....Have the car booked in at the dealer on it's next service (as per the mileage). Not only will you get a good quality service, 31 point check, vehicle health check including free battery test but you also get a FREE software update on ALL modules! There are some 30 modules on the vehicle and I guarantee that at least 1 will be out of date (unless serviced recently by a dealer). Software is about £30 per module, so having them all updated on a service can potentially be very lucrative and cost saving to you!
