Unfortunately the tdi has taken a turn for the worse and a potentially life ending (the cars) situation has occurred. I'm really quite upset about it all because of the effort I've put into this car, but, if I don't try and laugh about it I'll probably cry!

So here's a little vid...... If someone can guess the problem they win a fictional curly wurly! Have a listen and see what you think.

Sounds like you have bent something in the front.

It is at the front

TBH it sounds like one of those single pot stationary engines you see at steam rallies.

So I would guess at loss of compression on one cylinder.

Pretty serious misfire there.

The regularity of it says no firing at all on at least one, if not two cylinders.

Mega HGF?

Have you compression tested it?

Well Blackdog and Mr sideways are close enough.

It was blown gasket between cylinders 3&4. It really did sound like a steam engine too!

Here is the offending item

That's right, you've already done the hard bit in stripping it down! ;)
Didn't you recently change the HG though?

You still got that engine or did it go with the 440?

Forgot all about it until now.

I was gonna take the whole engine, Fella. Or at least the head and auto 'box.

I did brand new head and gasket obviously, but we think an inferior quality gasket may be the issue as all of the gaps between cylinders were starting to leak.

mine sounded like that when I had an issue.... two loose head bolts!!

I have a few spare parts for one of these cars if you need anything ;)
