Anyone else had problems replacing a turbo on an explode?

I took mine into garage last week for Turbo replacing as its smoking badly garage ordered a turbo in for 2005 T5 so thought all should be good. I get there to be told that when they started stripping the car down they found that the cooling pipes and the oil pipes on my car are larger than a standard T5. I was also told they were having issues sourcing a turbo as most places were quoting 12-£1500 for turbo alone without fitting and quoted a 3 month wait for parts . They have now managed to source a brand new turbo through AET I think and that will be £1048 all fitted inc vat.

That's interesting, to my knowledge, my ex plod has a normal turbo and normal pipes.
What does volvo say when you check with parts?

News to me too. I'm doubtful as that was never listed in the police spec brochure.

Things like suspension yes.

Would it not be a lot cheaper to just get it re-built?

Problem would be time off road to have Turbo rebuilt, its my only transport and I do commute of 50 a day and from where I live I couldn't get public transport to work in time. I was quoted a week for rebuild.

I was surprised to about the Turbo too but the Mechanic is a long term friend and I have no reason to doubt him on what he has told me he found. I could also see the logic in what he was saying as you wouldn't want turbo to be starved of oil on a long blast chasing another car it would just make it more reliable rather than a performance improvement.

They have taken number off old Turbo and ordered it from that, its due for new one fitting tomorrow all being well provided currier delivers today as planned, so I'll see what happens.

If it's a 2.3 L it'll have a 16t, although if it's a 2005, it should be a k24.
16t pipework won't fit a k24 and vice-versa.

Hi Martin, it is a K24 that is fitted and was a K24 that was delivered, however pipe diameters were different on the existing Turbo to that of the New one. Garage assured me they were the same turbo but just had different pipe sizes , they have since spoken to AET and re-ordered the turbo to match the number on the existing turbo so fingers crossed it should all be good tomorrow when fitted. These things always seem to happen just as I get saved up enough for a Map which is just typical.
