Advice please.... Been plagued with a high idle speed (1200 or so rpm) for some time now and today I discovered that pinching the vacuum pipe at the radiator mounted solenoid returns the idle to normal. I have at this stage removed the pipe from the switch and plugged both ends. The car has only been driven a mile or so to check if the idle is constant and is driving normally. Can anyone tell me if it can be left like this please?

By the sound of it your high idle was being caused by a air leak on either the pipework or by a split evap unit.

I've had my evap not plumbed in for ages and haven't any problems.

as above delete the evap and blank the spigot on the inlet manifold, or if you wish to keep it, check the valve is fitted the correct way around and working correctly, if in doubt swap for a known good one to pin down the issue

To be clear. I've just split the connection at the radiator mounted switch and blocked both pipes. Should I anticipate any problems?

All I've done is blank off the pipe that feeds the solenoid.

Thank you Oblark. All I asked.
