cheers for the advice everyone. mrsmopp you where right. there was no bleed valve though. when i had a good look at what was going on in there i found that
the hose from the actuator had been snaped off the pressure regulator. unfortunately this was not a very cheap part to replace it cost me £80 for the regulator and 1m of new hose. though luckily i think the engine was unharmed cos i test drove it earlyer and everything seemed fine no smoke etc.
