Have you tested it?, what are your impressions?

& is it for sale...? :)

Looks fine to me but many people like pink on this forum...! I've sourced a 400-series engine damper to make one but if you do get chance to make some brackets up I'd buy a set.

I'd be interested to know what you/Jim think of it also, how it helps with torque steer....cheaper than a proper LSD (and gearbox to match, for me)

well mine doesn't torque steer at all now, can you pm me the length of that damper and I'll see what I can do. (the damper length question is to both Jim and James)

I'm told by the forum's 400-series expert (thank u, Steve Sideways) that the distance below is approximately 205 mm (between bolt centres)

This was with the damper installed so compressed length.

you do yourself a disservice, sir, not everyone puts up with the punishment TWO 400 series & a 'mini kraken', as you put it, can dish out

This is the one I used, it might have dimensions in advert ( I have not looked)

Look at this on eBay:

That looks to be 300 mm or so, I'm about 100 mm short....story of my life..!

I'm all over this idea lads, I'm in the process of getting a program made up in work to make them on the water jet.
I have sourced a damper off a hood on a cnc machine but I'm not sure if it's too stiff..
I've got a vast selection of rubber bushings so will have a play when I fit it to try to remove the ps pump vibration you spoke of Colin.
Be great to rid my car of the torque steer. :)

I would be keen if an ME7 version could be made.

there's plenty of time, his car was still in bits, which would be ready first the me7 damper or the SSB ?

I'm happy to help if I can with relation to getting the brackets made but materials may be an issue.

If any drawings are needed I can get drawings done in Autocad (our lass can do it or I know lads who can use it)

In fact that goes for any part really, if it can be sketched up with a biro then a CAD drawing can be made

May be best to start a damper thread, rather than taking up space in Jimbob's project thread

The program used on the water jet doesn't need a specific cad drawing Jamesy, it relatively easy to cut whatever shapes or contours using the control screen. Thanks though. I'm taking the big girl to work on Friday to measure up using my gizmo's in work.
Are people using boot dampers on the "ghetto" fabs as Colin put it?

I'm planning to plasma cut mine when I'm in on nights this week and utilise a boot damper as per Colin's superb example of budget mods that make a massive difference, can't wait to see how well this works on the green bitch

I think before everyone uses up the boot damper supply, some one aught to give Jim a couple as he's broken his brolly.

Just to add to this, the fully extended length of the damper is 245 mm and bolt hole diameters are 8.5 mm. Fully compressed is 178.

don't these boot struts struggle to hold up a tailgate, let alone hold back a 250bhp engine?

I've got to say I was thinking that also. The one I posted is an engine torque damper from a Volvo 400-series, which holds back a whole 120 hp / 175 Nm :). Anything better than nowt....good motto for life that

A knackered one might not hold a tailgate up but a good one certainly does the job, and an engine doesn't exactly move as much as a tailgate, I put some tape on my strut to monitor movement and it moves about 3mm.

No-one had new struts on their boot for a while then?

Mine nearly knocked me out the first time I tried it!

Yep, I have to hang on tho the tailgate on the T-10 or it just shoots up with the weight loss on it :)

I'm hopefully getting some fancy dampers.
Colin's right his moves a minimal amount, we had a demo last week at the smoke stop.
I've bagged some 10mm stainless which is a tad overkill but I like things to be well built. Lol

claymore
Sunday 3rd May 2015, 13:09
I think 10mm might be too thick, 6mm gives just enough thread on the strut mount bolts for the nuts to be fully wound down with a strut brace fitted.

Cheers Colin.
I may have to get the milling machine out then.
