P1 V70 boot lid clips....

Ok so mine has the dreaded crap clips and wobble and rattle from the boot lid cover. Is it worth me buying all new clips from the dealer? I am sure i read somewhere on here a few weeks ago that someone had bought one with upgraded clips on the boot cover to alleviate this happening again? I would rather get clips than start screwing self tappers into the door.

Lots of tailgate repair kits on ebay, they seem to come with replacement clips etc

As said above, several kits on the bay for around a tenner and I've never even thought of a stealer for these. I've used several and they have all given good results.

Ive used the kit pfv sell and found it to up to the job. The clips are single use only in my experience.

Have fun fitting it. I remember using my head at times to support the trim panel, as my arms got tired- softy!!. A great job when it's sorted though.

Try not to break the handle surround, it's a bit of a bugger to get off as proved on my car. It was originally glued on!

I packed some bits of foam stripping between the handle and the panel to help stop it whacking about.

I had issues with that handle in the trim panel, until I sussed out that there was a small screw to be removed from the lever knob so you can remove that. Then there is more space to prise the surround out from what I remember.

Hmmm. interesting. As said there mine was broken anyway and glued on so me taking it on and off a few times broke it properly :(

Luckily the one from the spares car was fine so just nabbed that and and stuffed some foam behind it to create an completely rattle free tailgate ;)
Also adjusted the boot lock striker, it had moved and caused the whole tailgate to move a bit!

Nearly all the lugs on my surround had broken off, but somehow it still stayed on. Now the dreaded striker I had many issues with as well, mainly with the rounding of the bolts. I eventually sussed out that my rear bumper was sitting too high(possibly since the resprayed bumpers), so I lowered it a bit after replacing the mount things.

Cheers guys. It's been off before has this trim... but not by me! Will check out to see if there is a screw there or not. Once the screw is out and the knob is of l take it it's just a case of negotiating the panel around it?

My striker is ok... if I remove the panel and the door knob is this going to alter the striker at all or where yours already dodgy before you started this repair?

Holy c**p! I only ordered the kit yesterday and it's arrived today! That's impressive!

Well that was also a painless task. All of 30 mins and that job is done!! I didn't even need to remove the knob either and I cheated a little and drilled tiny pilot holes for the screws.

Highly recommend anyone with this problem to do this.... very easy job and the hardest part was removing the door knob trim (I used a spudger which I use for repairing phones and stuff) and getting the old broken clips out.

Can't wait to go for a squeak free drive now :)

Does your tailgate not move around cos of the plastic on the strikeplate wearing out as well? Mine did, so out with the insulation tape to sort that.

You can adjust the striker plate, I used to just pack it with tape but it kept getting worn etc due to slamming the big old thing. When the door was shut I could move the door quite a bit!

Take out the trim covering the striker, get in the boot and shut the door behind you. Loosen the 2 torx screws and pull the door to you (or get someone to push from outside) and then tighten the 2 screws. It was the biggest source of noise in mine, tailgate moving, broken panel clips and broken handle surround. I'm not taking it off again lol

I actually just ended up replacing mine, only £10-15 or so.

Well I just gave the tailgate a wiggle from the outside whilst shut and there doesn't seem to be any play or movement at all :)

My wife had the CD with a very rude version from what I remember. I'll look at my C70's sunroof in the daylight tomorrow to see if I can see that seal on her.
