This is a thread to tell others what you did to youre x40 and also a record for members so feel free to post and tell us. Post pics if poss :)

Right I'll kick it off lol I had my tracking done today nice straight steering wheel again :) feels fantastic to drive.

Monday 30th March 2015, 20:03
Who did the tracking mate, I have a Hunter alignment place around the corner, Th t5 is going there once the front suspension gets replaced,, which is soon, the front end is just about on the ground.

S40kieran
Monday 30th March 2015, 20:18
Just a local tyre place orca :) reason mine had to be done mate I had all the front suspension off to do the top mounts also I had to replace a steering rack gator, nice and straight now :) it was doing my head in steering wheel not being correct. Feels much nicer. Wasn't out much tbh, but you can never get it spot on

Orca2
Monday 30th March 2015, 20:22
Cant wait to get mine sorted, its eating front tyres, I decided to go Bilsteins and eibachs , and might as well do the top mounts at the same time , they are a bit shagged, the discs and calipers are already here, ots just getting the time to do it now.

S40kieran
Monday 30th March 2015, 20:27
You can do it all youreself orca :) it's not hard, tracking and alignment is a different ball game though you have to have proper laser machines etc. mine ate through a set of front tyres aswell mate :( top mounts were really shagged on mine.

Can't beat the Hunter alignment, I swear by it.

Orca2
Monday 30th March 2015, 20:31
The guy is only sixty quid, Im going to get the T5 and the C70 done, the c70 feels a wee bit wandery at high speeds, and the T5 does such high mileage it will cost less in tyres to just get it right. Plus they feel planted when they are set up properly.

Replaced the two front struts the other day and also a new pair of drop links

Orca2
Monday 30th March 2015, 21:33
I decided to get Bilsteins , cos the struts are both knackered anyway, might as well upgrade a bit its like a discount on Bilsteins lol.

Nah they are great tyres , the grip is not bad and they last fairly well, its a pothole thing, I bent two wheels last year with 45's on , even the motorways have potholes up here. The ride isnt that bad , its just the damage that outs me off.

mitchyboy01
Wednesday 1st April 2015, 13:19
Hi Orca thanks.

Yeah it has lacquer. You only need to take the swirls out so unless you're silly and try to polish out a huge deep scratch you won't go through to the colour coat.

I use a Silverstorm rotary polisher.

I use Megs 105 on an orange Hexlogic pad for the first 2 passes (gets rid of heavy swirls) then Megs 205 on a white Hexlogic pad for the finer polishing. Then I put 2 coats of bilt hamber wax and 2 coats of Zaino show shine sealant which seals the wax in for 6 months.

Once mine is machine polished it won't be seeing any Polak carwashes or even a sponge! I don't want any more swirls as each time it's machine polished the paint gets thinner. My bonnet is very stone chipped but I'm doing the best with what I have atm and thankfully it's looking a lot better!

I was just going through the history & found it last had a cambelt in 2006, so it's definitely due a replacement. I usually have issues when using local Auto-factors, I always end up taking something back or it is just not quite right. I didn't think the cambelt kit was a bad price at 90 odd quid with new idler & tensioner.

Yeah always very helpful! Only problem is I have another list of parts to order now.

Just found 1 fog light smashed, it still has the crappy Ph1 washer jets, forgot how bad they are. I need Ph1 top mounts to fit my KW's as the FK's currently fitted are Ph2.

Then onto the brakes, the standard brake don't inspire confidence! maybe it's the current pads but I feel my fully loaded Transit's brakes better.
I'm currently looking at:
K sport or D2 not convinced about the quality though!
Wilwood, I know someone who ran them & they were not upto track use. Seem to be used a lot on Drag cars.
Brembo's, I can get an adapter kit for about £100, already have a pair of calipers. Only thing that bothers me is how the pedal will feel with the size of the Brembo pistons & the Volvo master cylinder.

I don't think it's turbo related I've given everything a good clean checked all the pipes, but my temp sensor has been playing up of late today it's right in the red (needle) and is overheating aswell fan on. I reckon it's either overfueling or not getting enough fuel. Causing the sluggishness

Kieran If you follow the hoses from the N75 Valve to the wastegate (I think it's the top hose) and unplug it was the wastegate.

Take it for a test drive after and see if it boosts. As soon as you get an improved boost from the car get the hose plugged back in. Do not leave it off or continue letting it boost. That'll confirm the N75 is faulty.

If it doesn't boost even with that you have other issues. Possibly the wastegate is at fault.

Yeah - Disconnect it from the N75 valve end. Then drive the car and see if it boosts. If it boosts then stop boosting and connect the wastegate back up as it's the N75 that's fudged.

N75 is fudged then. Don't drive too much without this hose connected or boost too much in testing. The wastegate is effectively disable at the moment so you can do some serious damage if you don't be sensible.

How long you had the rough idle? Diesels have an Air ICV as of sorts. That top hose that connects to the black box on top of the inlet manifold I BELIEVE is like an ICV - If the Idle issue started around the time your boost issues started I'd go for them being related to the N75....

Otherwise your looking at injectors starting to clog up! Run some injector cleaner through if replacing the N75 doesn't cure your rough idle too.

S40kieran
Friday 3rd April 2015, 01:39
Thanks again matt I suspected it was the injectors tbh ;) causing the rough idle, and they didn't happen at the same time the rough idle has been intermittent some days perfect others bad, the turbo issue came on all of a sudden. But problem solved I think :) thanks mate some sound advice as always

It's made by Evans, I like the idea of it as I don't do a lot of mileage & it doesn't corrode like water based coolant.
http://www.evanscoolants.co.uk/

I've seen this stuff before, Its a good idea as you effectively never have to replace your coolant again, Just make sure your block is bone dry though as it'll cause issues otherwise. I had planned on doing it when I eventually get away to getting a new engine for the diesel to refurb. Waterless coolant going in that one! The F9K's are prone to rusting really badly if the coolant isn't changed regularly and the right mix in!

A Diesel is a Renault gearbox, therefore the SMF conversion won't work.
A T4 uses an M56 gearbox exactly the same as the T5 therefore it will.

Youre wrong mate they either had the Renault box or the volvo m56 box ;) I have a m56 box reverse down the bottom as opposed to top ;), you are right in a way judge some x40's did have the Renault box

JUDGENINJA
Thursday 7th May 2015, 15:27
If it's a T4 then it should be an M56 as far as I know.... Or what I should say is, all the ones I've had were M56.
(X reg and a 51 plate).

S40kieran
Thursday 7th May 2015, 17:02
The whole range had them it was just the luck of the draw wether you got the m56 box or the Renault one mate ;) lots of x40's have the m56 box it's not just limited to the t4.

I take it the m56 is a tried and tested box also available or used in 850's and early t5 v70s, s60's things like that.

The phase 2 x40 diesels were breathed upon by volvo aswell, I'm sure they have volvo pistons etc, why they are reliable beasts. Also volvo detuned them for reliability.

after SITTING ON HI BUMPER FOR A BIT he shifted over and I plonked my foot down looking for this white object in the distance sitting in the 'fast' lane.
OOOHHHHH, the look on his face as I passed him in my old 'T' reg doing an alledged ( cough cough ) 110 and still mightighly pulling was an absolute picture !!!! He pulled over then into the near lane and sat there whilst we then went throughthe 50 zone at Wakefield.

Sadly not under the watchful eye of skyship head of the fun police if it's not tuv you can't come in.

Why does the French flag have Velcro?

So the blue and red sections are easily removed during a time of war.

I am sure it was yiur interest in those bags that caused the problem in the first place, that and you being caught with quite so much lubricant on you at that time of the night.

Yes I find him funny orca can't beleive some people on there are calling for him to be banned :( he brightens things up and if they don't like his rants then don't read them is my motto.

How could they even think of banning Skyship? He is a one off , .. Not to mention he is the high priest of grease.

I knew Akita would eventually go , she seemed to get the wrong end of the stick all the time,

These shouldn't take too much work to fit as they are only 7" wide. Along with 215 35 tyres they are just a bit taller than 18's I had fitted with no arch mods. Depends how low I decide to go though.

How much can you go upto then firebolt on standard suspension I thought it was 17 then arch work you learn something new on this forum all the time.

On another note replaced both track rod ball joints today.
