Well it rained a bit but didn't spoil the day by any means. Arrived about 08:00, parked up & signed on...is that S70 small or just far away...

28827

Drivers briefing (bracelets handed out to check who attended)...

28828

Circuit map might come in handy later...they are assuming I know which way - clockwise or anti-clockwise :)

28829

Good cross-section of cars but lots of Lotus 7 inspired stuff. Hats off to those guys they must have been soaking after 5 mins on track...

28830

28831

28841

Choose a helmet, any helmet...

28833

Some pre-flight checks...including TRACS off, static sound check etc

28834

Go! :)

TRACS off!

28835

Down the start/finish straight...there's a track out there somewhere:

28837

RX-8 taking a 'wet line' through Tower:

28836

Am I supposed to be going clockwise...? Me spinning around into Hawthorn:

28839

VTEC just kicked in yo! Civic going a bit too quick out of Chicane:

28838

It brightened up later and could just sneak into triple figures - this is rapidly heading towards Clervaux:

28840

I don't know how to set the clock on my dash cam btw

As mentioned in my project thread, Adam Morgan (one of the current BTCC drivers) was there and sat in the R giving 30 mins of tuition. He said he was impressed by the 'grunt' of the S70...and the colour!! Highly recommended was a great day even pishing down.

Looks like you had a time of it!

I'd love to have a bash at this.
Not really got anything suitable on the fleet though at the moment. The Workbus is currently the only manual, and I don't think a standard low mileage 850TDi would cut the mustard! :(

It was great mate - with the gear we put on it yesterday the R is pretty damn good, considering you can drive it to the track & back home again. I think it surprised a few people.....'you there, in the (2006) Lotus..move over!'

28843

A shot of the daft bracelets you need to wear....& my 'getting rained on face'

Lol!

So...
You span it as soon as you took the Lotus?!

Glad the Billies are working out.

a couple of minutes after mate, track was getting slippy and I was getting carried away. Braked late into the corner, all the weight went up front so when the time came take me foot off the brake get back on the gas, the arse swung around & I was treated to the view of the Lotus passing me slowly :)..... plus the back end has stiffened up a bit with that strut. Classic 'simpleton driving a FWD'.

I've got to say this R understeers much less than other S/V70s I've driven. It's hardly on demand oversteer but turn-in is better with the uprated ARB & upper strut (both at the rear). I'm not exactly sure what 'neutral' means when talking about handling but I think it's this. You can go much quicker without it doing anything daft.

Looks like a great day jamesy! bar the weather of course!
I would love to do a track day in mine at some point but I nd to kill my Nankang ditch finders on the front first.
As wobbly said Oulton would be Ideal but doubt the weather will in November!

I didn't mind the rain tbh, Biff. It was my first trackday so I didn't know what to expect, but the rain meant that everyone was taking it a bit easier than they normally would - especially the ones with expensive stuff.

Of course there was still some tools overtaking on the corners as if they were racing but generally people were steady away. Still got red flagged at least 5 times though - where everyone needs to leave the track while they pull someone out of the surrounding fields :)

I suppose, I'd be the same, never driven on a track. I've always been the goon on the horn hanging on for dear life in the co drivers seat. Lol
I do really want to do one. Think I'll try kill my tyres over the summer. Lol
