Might be ME7 on a 98 plate but the maf would still be in the same location. I didn't think the older cars had a temp sensor on the inlet?

I think the naturally aspirated cars did, but even so should still have a MAF in the same place.

M4.4 has a inlet air temp sensor.

What is your engine code...if the fourth number is a '2' (like B5252S) your car won't have a MAF

Engine code can be found from VIN

Looks likes like my engine has not got one, so what have i got instead as the engine tick over is behaving like it is my M A S,just a point i was thinking of cleaning the throttle housing next could this be my problem, many thanks for valued help, Ged

If the engine code is B5252S, you will have Fenix 5.2 system so just a MAP and intake air temp sensor, no MAF.

You can make an LED code reader for your car - might help you diagnose the problem

Could also be basic stuff like plugs, leads, idle control valve
