I've been looking into changing my hoses to silicon, but thought should I go the extra mile and do an RIP Kit? Then I thought shall I do the uprated intercooler too?! I'm too confused!!

What are thoughts on the Standard Pipework VS RIP VS RIP & Uprated IC?

Was looking at the DO88 goods.

Car is 98 V70R FWD MAN M4.4 with Rica St1

Thanks,
Rohit

Hi there, I personnaly think its a no brainier to get all of above, I did and the difference was fantastic everything fitted so easily (it's a tight fit if you keep air on rad) but no more than a few hours work and it isn't that expensive. All available from PFV and if you buy all together you may get a good price

I've seen the quality of oblarks and it had issues, which put me off do88.

I've been looking at the kl racing stuff, but whichever you use it will be worth doing

I havent seen the newer do88 intercoolers but I do have the older one which we got on the group buy yes the don't look as pretty as the newer ones but they seem constructed well enough and are a great improvement over the original it is a tight fit where the top of the cooler meets the slam pannel but if fitted correctly you wont have to cut and chop the slam pannel like ive seen others do.
over all impressions are they are a good upgrade.

The do88 is £350 odd? Rip is £280

The klracing ones are a fair bit cheaper and they do 40,50,60mm

If you're keeping the air con you need to make a slight modification to the front crossmember for it all to fit:

Funnily I'll be doing downpipe, but I'll fit that here before hand depending how lazy I'm being.

I'll have mine mapped with the box limiter removed.

The car will have to do me until polestars drop in price a little or I fancy manual converting an s60 t6

You should be pleased with the remap I was, I'm just trying to get the most out of it now, I'm having the map tweaked at the same time should go very well

Just trying to pep mine up abit, as it's a daily has to be drivable, but it will be retired in the next 18 months, quite literally once polestars dip a lot in price.

The wife won't let me spend that much on a car, but I must not think about what else I can buy for the money, even for the price of secondhand one.

Speaking from experience mate the downpipe is a right P.I.T.A. to fit on the R, took me a day and a half to do it on ours.

Made correctly and fitted by a friend who runs a formula 1 centre :)

No need to get dirty.

Steve next time take it to somewhere with a ramp.

Pillar lift would have helped a bit, but there's just very little room with the angle gear in the way. I had to remove the crash plate next to the steering column in the end.

All of the test results for the do88 intercooler for your car against standard parts are here within our product listing :

link (http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?products_id=8186&osCsid=7d70a8d1b58a5553d384f7cd4a5f6a84)

Releasing this detailed information shows how well they are developed and what a significant difference each version gains over the standard part.
do88 also increase the diameter of the lower outlet to match the top one at 63mm, and I'm not sure any other version does this.
when combined with their rip kit the difference over the standard setup is even more significant.

buying the rip kit and intercooler together as a 'big pack' obtains a discount over buying them separately .
big pack (http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=28_1160_1172&products_id=8190)

do88 have offered these comments regarding their intercooler in comparison against other designs directly in answer to your question :
“Regarding the core thickness, a core that are a little bit thicker would not help so much for cooling as it's the cooling area that makes the biggest difference. And this intercooler have a big frontal area and good cooling efficiency. So do not choose a thicker intercooler with smaller frontal surface as it will not be as good as this one.
And we can say our intercooler are far better than all other performance intercoolers for this car because of our tank design and our core setup that are developed by ourselves. Most competition have only cheap boxy tanks and just some core chosen without any thought.”

Hi Guys, just a quick update. Managed to get myself a volvo original RIP kit off eBay. Fitted it today in the freezing cold! But anyways its on and I'm happy that there is a reduced amount of turbo lag.Looking forward to the weather to get a bit warmer now so that I can start detailing.
