Is it straight forward to replace these bulbs either in the switches or on the dash?

Yes very simple, remove switch with a bone tool or flat headed screw driver, then turn the white part in the picture 1/8th of a turn then remove.

To replace the bulbs in the cluster is also very simple and takes ten mins to remove the top of the dash.

I believe if you have skinny arms, you can reach up behing the dash to change them without having to take it out.

Also, the bulbs in the dash switches are called 'grain of wheat bulbs' in those tiny tall white bulb holders. You just have to thread the bulbs into the holders.

These are the bulbs out of their holder but clear obviously. (http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/coloured-subminiature-bulbs-green-pg79l)
Or you can obviously get them from Volvo but I believe they are like £4 each, sod that!
