Greetings Volvings...

I am in the process of deciding on upgrading my 16" columbus rims for some very nice 18" Pegasus (8x18 ET42).
My question is: What tyre size can I get away with?

I dont want a huge gap between the top of the tyre and the wheel arch, and I really dont want to lower the suspension yet.

The tyre shop near me said 215/35x18, but when i suggested 225/40, they beleived that i'd be running the risk of wheel arch rubbing. Dunno what to think. Somebody must have overcome this dilema.

cheers

You will defo get wheel arch rubbing with 225/40..i had mine on for 100 miles and took them off cause i couldnt stand it . I changed to the 215 / 35 but on the pegs they are like rubber bands ..a world of difference form the 40 series. Look cool but harsh!!!

With the 225/40's you'll get a little bit of rub nothing to major, 35 profiles and there is no rubbing.

Im told that they are ET42; I forgot to mention that they are replica Pegasus, not Genuine - so that may be the difference. The thought of arch rubbing can be dealt with with a steering rack limiter, cant it? Do Volvo do one?

They do spacers made out of nylon for the rack, the rubbing is actually on the plastic arch liner, so if you took this out you wouldn't get any rub with 225/40s

How do these spacers fit in?

They aren't really a big deal, It's easier to not fit them and never go on full lock, that way you won't get robbed by Volvo,

Ask Engineer if you feel you still need them, as he has had dealings with the spacers,
