Having just bought a 2008 V70 D5 SE with 85K on the clock I am making sure everything is up to scratch. Generally very happy and impressed with the difference from my old 2002 D5 (fuel consumption worse though !) One thing I notice is that having slowed down from say 60 on duel carriageway to go round a roundabout for example, when putting foot back on the gas have to be very gentle to avoid unwanted (and uncomfortable) kick down. It seems like 0.5mm movement with the right foot is OK, but 1mm and the seat hits you in the back ! Could be I'm just getting used to new throttle set-up compared to last D5 (2002). It's hard not to pull away from every corner like a boy racer!
I found several reports saying that gear changes are a lot smoother once the ATF is changed. here http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2008/2008_maintenance/2008_maintenance.html says that change required at 52,000 only if car has been used for towing.
Has anyone else seen the benefit of changing the ATF & at what mileage. Any advice much appreciated...
There's a typically useless statement in the owners manual that "under normal conditions the gearbox oil does not need changing during its service life". But what do they regard as "service life" 100,000 miles? There are many D5s still going after 200,000...
Cheers,
Mark

PS. that service check-list in the link above appears to be for the US. I note they (in US) say timing belt at 120,000 whereas some other UK info I came across says 108,000 http://www.mytimingbelt.com/Results.aspx?ModelId=491 ??
