suspected fuel pump not delivering fuel, got it home took the fuel pump cover off to find that the tensioner had gone and the belt was loose so fitted a new one, timed it all up and still wont fire

Sounds to me like it's not timed up properly, even 1 tooth out can be a massive difference in injection timing. I would move it one tooth back first then try one forward, then go 2 back ect ect. Eventually it should fire then you can plug it in a dynamically check the timing.

Is all running lovely now timed up to -0.5% the marks on the pump were way off, not bad purchase for 200 quid LOL

Nice one, the marks on the pump are crap, it's common practice to set it to them then advance it 1 tooth. Usually gets you pretty close.
