When I bought the R I knew it was going to be great on fuel (having had performance cars before including the R's brother the Focus ST) but even on a long run I cant get more than 23mpg!

Is that normal? Am I expecting too much from a big bus of a car?

Depends on how you drive, i used to get 30mpg out of my auto 855 R, and 38 out of my 855 t5 manual but it did have a ported head

Should get at least 30 on a run

Depends on what you consider a run. I can get high 20's/low 30's at a constant 70MPH

I'm averaging just over 25mpg over 1100 miles according to the trip computer. Thats mainly commuting but also over some long distance runs. Its an auto and I'm a pretty steady driver, so anything over 25 would have to be a good result IMHO.

It's an R, it's going to consume lots of fuel, live with it, and enjoy.:D

BTW ours had a 'run' up to Trax on Sunday, and managed 21.8 mpg, wasn't exactly a steady 70mph though. ;)

Ive gone from £13 in veg oil to cover 200 miles to £50 in petrol to just about scrape 200 miles on a good day. I clearly forgot how bad the ST was on fuel!

I will see low 30 out of mine with careful driving, I mostly do high miles on the motor way, but on average I am doing between 26-28mpg which is a combination of spirited driving and also cruising in and around 70mph on motorway, by the way are you using 95 or 97 RON petrol, they will run on 95 RON for light driving, but your fuel economy will be hammered if you are?, which may or may not be a factor.

I did trax last weekend just sat at 70 mph all the way up and back 400miles and got a staggering 36mpg average.:).
Did get a bit boring but there's no rush.

I was half hoping somebody might sobered up a bit by the time I got home but that wasn't the case.:mischievo
