Manual conversions are not hard at all.

Either will be possible, can even fit a 6 sp, which is what I've done

Can do it in a long day or just do the prep work one weekend then the gearbox change the next. There are plenty of threads out there to show you, a very good one on voc

I bought a knackered auto box 850r, with black interior and popped a 6 sp in so yes. Or keep looking one will turn up eventually.

the 6 sp is way better than the 5 sp, first is short but 3rd very nice gear feels like you have more power due to gearing.

I am keeping quiet but I know where a mint, 1 owner 65k miles saffron v70r 2wd is, when it comes up for sale I'll nab it.

if your trying to do a manual conversion on an awd you'll need the proper m58 gearbox with the extra output for the rear (which are getting hard to find). To convert an awd to 2wd most people just bin the propshaft.

Or m66 awd box fits just fine, it's a stronger box as well with nice long gear for the motorway.

i've seen a few people say there stronger, i've also seen a few having to replace them which isn't a good sign for a young box

I've seen very few go wrong compared with the m56/58 etc, I've had 4 all been ok, they run more torque through them standard if tuned and awd, so would have thought to see more go wrong. I prefer the ratios to the 5 sp, which now to me feels very long geared.

At least it's not a m59 lol, now they seem to be quite weak.

I'd buy a manual from the off mate, you've got the correct wiring & ecu etc.

If I`m not mistaking you only need to bridge gear position swith and no wiring needed, happy to be corrected tho.

Ettienne, you say you've done a few of these - is it the same for the V70 as described in the link (which is a late 850)? I *may* have a go at converting my V70R AWD next year...

Cheers, Sam
