2004 V50 T5 hesitation/misfire HELP

Hi,
My 2004 V50 T5 has a slight hesitation/misfire that appears when the air conditioning is turned on, it usually happens between 1500 and 2500 revs, it makes driving round town a bit embarrassing with passengers. I have noticed a similar issue when the car is used after been stood for a couple of hours, this happens whether air con is on or off. It's not the end of the world but it does bug me as this car is otherwise perfect. I have read that the Bosch fuel pressure sensor can cause some similar issues, but before spending £100 on replacing this part I was hoping someone might have some advice?

The fuel pressure sensor is often a troublesome one. Not sure if it applies to the ME9 series 5-pot cars but the landrover version is a direct fit (usually has Volvo stamped on it too lol) and is about 50 quid.

It might be best to get the car plugged-in and diagnosed properly, although the FPS doesn't always throw a DTC.

I have had a few minor issues with mine over the last 53k and 3.5 years and she is now on 170 k and running 300 bhp. I would get the codes read its a good chance it is the fps a lot of parts can be swapped with the focus st which may also help you. What I have found is sometimes you can never get it to misbehave when it goes to the garage and you have to wait for them to get worse to even show a fault code! I would start with getting the codes read and cleared though!

You're right there, it's like going to the Doctors. You start to feel better and so you do your very best to make yourself feel worse again just so the Doctor can tell you what was wrong with you.

Funny how the cars seem to get better before a trip to the garage. :D

i also had a similar problem with my S40 .. mine turned out to be the fuel pressure sensor ..

Thanks for the comments and advice, much appreciated. The car has been for service at a specialist volvo garage (volmech in teeside) just last month, would they have checked any codes? I do know I noticed the problem not long after buying the car from a volvo dealer and I asked them to look at it, they could not replicate it and just about made me think I was going insane........however it seems to be getting worse, hence this post.:-)

I have been and checked the codes using the helpful link supplied by Harvey, the bulk of them were 'ready' or 'checking' but the following 3 were down as 'set' EPS, CEM and TRM. Now I don't have a clue what these mean, so I'm going to have a quick check on the old internet. After going through this process I had the 'low battery' warning come up, which seems odd as the battery is only 18 months old and I wasn't sat in the car for longer than 5 mins with ignition on..........is this something I should worry about? After finding the FPS for £59 delivered on a landrover website, I have decided to purchase the part and give it a try. For the record, volvo wanted just shy of £200 for the same part...........this sort of daylight robbery isn't at all justified and volvo MUST do something about it. The cars are great, the parts prices are a rip off and will surely put many people off.
