I had the same issue on my Escort, but I made do by pulling off slowly.
It's when I go to pull off with a reasonable amount of revs, the clutch feels like it's not engaging properly and is almost slipping? Hard to describe the noise to be honest, it's a grumbling sort of noise and you can feel it through the pedal a little.
Could the clutch be contaminated? Or perhaps thrust bearing?
I've put up with it on the Escort for 2 years so it's not an issue, but it's not ideal when I need to pull out sharpish!
