The top bush on my car is split, this one > http://www.ipdusa.com/uploads/images_newsletters/1996.jpg

Is it hard to replace, any special tools needed?

A couple of spanners should do, a socket set if you can stretch to it. :D

Piece of cake mate, I even did a "How To", I'll see if I can find the link.

Parts For Volvos did the How To on that bushing although it was the square one the basics are the same, I did one for the small bushing behind it and the Lower Torque Rod. Here's the link to the PFV one...

By the way, is it an original rubber one that's gone (very common for the round ones to split by the way), or is it a powerflex bushing that's split? Powerflex ones are covered on a lifetime warranty!

So, spanners, socket set and screwdriver and hammer to get the bush out? Think i've got all those ;)

15 and 18mm spanner and a 18mm socket if changing the full mount.

Just a standard one.

Just a standard one.

Very common for those to split. Some will tell you that it's worth replacing the original round shape for a square shaped mount and Powerflex bushing but to be honest the Powerflex bushings won't or shouldn't fail regardless.

Just going for standard bush, don't want anything that will transfer any vibrations and won't have the car for long so normal should be fine.

Get Powerflex Yellow, they're only 10% harder than rubber so not too much vibration but with the longevity of Powerflex.

Thats strange. If you want a spare mount so you can a poly bush off the car ive got one you can have for cost of postage.

Could well be a round one mate, Sharkey Rs facelift car has a round one, whereas our pre facelift has a square one, I think it's a case of fitting whatever was to hand at the time. ;)

Mine is 2001 and it has a square one. I think it was literally whatever the guy in the factory picked out of the parts bucket on the line. ;)

Been busy the last few days, looking at stuff for the new house, after finally getting round to opening the bonnet mine is definitely a round one.

Looks like this one http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=105_769_775&products_id=6755

Looks straight forward enough. Undo the bolt on the old bush, loosen the bolt on the rear of the mount so it can swing out of the way. Remove old bush, replace with new, move bracket back in place and then fit and tighten all screws. Simple.
