Ok, I was dead set on getting rid of the S60, to the digust of a few :uglyhamme. Partly because I have the 850, and partly because I fancied a change. After driving myself mad looking at everything from M3's, M5's and M6's to S8's and RS4's to Jags and Range Rovers, I've come to the conclusion that I can't bring myself to get rid of the S60. Everytime I look at it, I think why the hell would I want to get rid of that!

If I was a lottery winner I'd be a nightmare! I'd be one of those who would have a collection of 100 cars sat in a warehouse somewhere!

Anywho, it's staying, and it's getting 100% finished to my satisfaction. I've never done a project thread on this car so here goes.

Here's what's been done already:
2.4 engine swap
Ported and flowed cylinder head
Owens hybrid 19t turbo
VXR Injectors
GWE 3" Downpipe & 200 cell race cat
Feritta cat back
AEM progressive water Injection
Custom alloy tank that fits under spare wheel
Tim Williams front mount intercooler
D5 Oil Cooler
Brand new OEM Monroe shocks
Elevate lowering springs
IPD front & rear anti roll bars
Angle gear collar has been welded, so "shouldn't" ever fail!
All new OEM discs
Pagid RS4-2 Blue pads on the front
Pagid RS4-2-1 black pads on the rear
MTE custom remap (for a K24)
Sponge subframe bush inserts
Poly wishbone bushes
Various other Poly bushes
New flywheel
New clutch
Refurb'd genuine 18" Pegs
4 x Continental ContiForce Contact road legal track tyres
Front end resprayed
Carbon Fiber Works front splitter (Real CF)
Carbon Fiber Works PPC style tailgate panel (FRP)
Carbon Fiber Works door gauge pod (FRP)
60mm Electronic boost gauge

It's had masses of other stuff like new BCS, '05 power steering bottle, '05 gearbox linkage cables, an almost new steering wheel fitted, Parrot Hands Free, etc etc...

So what needs doing: :D
Grill surround painted dark anthracite
Rear bumper resprayed
Colour coded door strips resprayed
Refurb calipers - dull grey doesn't stand out enough!
Replace brake pads for OEM - Anyone who tracks their S60, give me a shout if your interested in the Pagid's
Replace tyres for decent road tyres - As above! The ContiForce's had little use (235/40/18) - £250 a tyre new!
Fit Elevate AMS induction kit (got!)
Fit poly bushes to engine stabilisation bar (got!)
Fit front strut brace (got!)
Fit facelift armrest/center console (got!)
Fit OEM 20gb dukebox (got!)
Remap! - The car runs fine on the MTE, but it's not ideal, it peaks at 1.5bar but has the usual MTE overboost sometimes hitting 1.6/7 bar. I'll be getting John (Dream3r) to remap it, with the help on Tim. Probably peaking at 1.4bar, for sustained reliability. I'd be happy with a safe, solid 350bhp on a random number generator!
Think that's about it! None of it is too major, just bits and pieces that would make it perfect for me.
Oh, I've also had a private plate on retention for over a year that I need to get put on the car!

I'll update as and when bits get done!

The car is going to Tims next weekend for a good going over. A couple of minor issues to fix, plus a good service and different/better plugs that Tim recommended (RS focus IIRC). A general health check before mapping.

There's been a slight change of plan on the mapping front. Tim is organising to hire Bruntingthorpe air strip & Shark Performance to get a proper 'on the road' map done in a safe and legal environment. Should all be tied up in the next couple of weeks or so.

Well! Finally time for an update!

The car has been at Tims for donkeys now for a few odds and sods. New OEM pads all round, new PAS fluid, new brake fluid, Oil and filter change, new plugs, OSR headlight leveler, new steering stops (no more arch rubbing!!! woohoo!), and a few other bits and bobs.

But the main thing, and this why the car has been at Tims for so long, it's now been mapped by Shark! It was done at Bruntingthorpe. I am yet to drive the car, but I'm duely informed by Tim, it's smooth progressive, fast and a beauty to drive. So I am really looking forward to getting my hands back on it!

I'm going to the Grantham meet next weekend to pick it up, and drop the 850 off

Glad it's all sorted.

Any idea on bhp figures / improvements? Over last Dyno run.

S70T5Chris
Saturday 30th August 2014, 17:43
No idea on figures mate. I'll try and get on a dyno at some point, so I can put a figure on it.

The main reason was to get a smoother drive. With the previous map, it was difficult to drive smoothly if that makes sense. Where the turbo is so aggressive, just a slight dab of the throttle and it would try and give you all the boost it could. And it would spike boost to 1.6/7 bar on occasion. So all that is sorted now, and it should be a real nice drive.

That could have been the throttle map, since ours was remapped the throttle is a lot more sensitive, but that's because the throttle map's been changed (at my request), in the first 4 gears you only have to breathe on the accelerator, and it takes off, unless the revs are below 2,000, but that's turbo lag for you, ;)

There has to be a throttle map, otherwise it won't work. ;)

I think you are confusing the pedal map guys. The pedal map requests x torque at y pedal %. The throttle plate isn't controlled directly by those maps (DBW).

Picked the car up from Tims last weekend. The drive home was superb! The car is so controllable, it's a nice easy drive. Great for pottering around, without the jerkiness that it had before. And put your foot down, and it absolutely flies. And more importantly, no more over boosting. I WAS very very happy. Until Tuesday came...

And it seems to have developed a boost problem. Go for a drive, and it won't boost above 1bar, then on another occasion it'll only hit 0.6bar. Then on another drive, it'll hit 1.1bar max, and so on. I'm hoping a new BCS will cure the problem, and it's not something more sinister! We'll see this week. All these these things are sent to try us, as they say!

Once this niggle is sorted it'll be onto refurbing and repainting the calipers (most likely going for red). And then repaint the door strips and rear bumper.

Fitted 4 new ContiSportContacts 5's this week too.

Is it still on the original MAF? Obviously the TCV would be the first thing to change, but if there's no improvement I'd look at the MAF. Also is it throwing up any codes?

S70T5Chris
Saturday 13th September 2014, 18:34
Plugged the dice in, no codes of any relevance. See what happens after changing the tcv.

Boost issue fixed! Boost gauge replaced with a working one :doh::doh::doh:

To be fair to me (the retard), as soon as I noticed something was up with the boost, I have only driven the car gently, as if I had a problem I didn't want to make it worse.

I did buy a new boost gauge just in case that was the 'fault'! Tim came down yesterday to do a couple of jobs on the ATR, and he confirmed that the boost gauge was fuggered in the S60! So binned off the cheapo gauge, and a nice new Defi gauge was fitted!

Now I can get back to driving the S60 properly! LOL!

Also Tim fitted a one way valve on the breather pipe for the WI tank, as it puked out a load of meth after a blast!

On another note, I have found another bodyshop to do my bits and bobs. The S60 is booked in mid December to have the rear bumper, door trims and side skirts repainted (all smoothed out properly). And he's going to smooth out and repaint PPC style tailgate piece - I have never been completely happy with the finish, as the original moulding of the panel isn't 100% smooth, it's a little rippled.

Not many jobs left to do now...

In a couple of weeks I'll be heading up to Tims to have the new calipers fitted and the TME catback.

S70T5Chris
Sunday 7th June 2015, 17:53
Update time!

The S60 had been with Tim, not for anything major, just a few niggles, bits and bobs.

* Swap calipers for newly refurbished items
* Fit TME cat-back
* Fit facelift armrest/centre console
* Sort drivers door electrics (connection issue somewhere)
* Get shot of rattling underneath the car
* Replace gearbox cables

Just sorting a few issues and making a couple of minor changes has made such a huge difference. The gear change is so much better now than it used to be, the gearstick almost felt like it was sat in treacle previously, something I just lived with, but now Tim's changed the cables it's spot on. No annoying rattle from under the car when pulling away now either.

I've had a brand new facelift centre console sat in the garage for donkeys. I also had a second hand one complete with the armrest, sliding tray, etc to swap over. Turns out on the second hand one I had the handbrake gaiter and aluminium sliding tray were toast. So this ended up being an expensive excercise! But I'm well chuffed with it, updates the interior nicely!

I always wanted a TME cat-back from day one. But ended up with the Feritta out of convenience. There's nothing wrong with the Feritta at all, except I was never a fan of the tail pipes, and arguably it's a little too quiet. The TME looks so much nicer and just sounds that tiny bit angrier than the Feritta, it's perfect!

And then the calipers :smlove2::smlove2::smlove2: Nothing else to say really.

Well it's very nearly finished. I just need to fit the 20gb juke box that has been collecting dust for god knows how long, re-trim steering wheel and gearstick and I think I will have officially finished the S60! I'm very, very pleased. It's absolutely perfect now.

For me it's probably the combination of the thickness of the pipes (rolled tips?) and the distance they come out. I prefer the thinner walled and further in TME tailpipe.

But it's not my car so it doesn't matter what I think, as long as owners are happy with their (hard earned, I'm guessing these things aren't cheap) mods then that is all that matters.

Sharkey was commenting on my bsr exhaust at BKV, as it's quite short with no over hang and fits nicely. Out of the 4 p2rs I've had it's the nicest sound I reckon, slightly better than the ferrita.

One of the BKV judges commented on the sound as I left, he quite liked apparently.

I don't think its worth the hassle, that centre console has freshened the interior up incredibly, it just shows how that detail enhanced the face lift interior, doing round the stereo would look nice but the gains would be minimal when comparing it to the console change. Loving your brakes BTW red always suits a car! I had mine removed last night ready to be sent for paint... not going for red though.

Yeah it's gone to a good home.

Got to move the M3 on first, but something big and fast with be their replacement! LOL

GTR is the obvious choice, but considering AMG Merc's, Jag's, Beemers, etc... We'll see once I've sold the M3 and worked out a final budget.

Shame you sold it Chris but completely agree on the Gtr.
My mate has just chopped in his r8 v10 plus for a 14 reg gtr with stage one.
It's on a different level!! :)
That's 2 of my mates rocking gtr's.
I give up!!

Just had a chat with my brother in law, he's a salesman at the Merc dealer in Pompy. He's gonna keep and eye out for any good deals on AMG stuff.

My man with the gtr had an c63amg in 2013. The noise is lovely but they do have issues.

Well both c63's I know of used to chuck regular wobblers. Random warning lights & error messages advising to take to a dealer. Would imagine it would be expensive if out of warranty.
My mate drove all the way to the ring only for it to throw a hissy fit when esp & tracs was turned off to do its first lap. It was the final straw & he got rid.
But the noise, oh the noise was pure sex. I preferred it to his r8 & the gtr. :)

AMGs are great cars I used to demo them at MB world, great noise and they drift for fun, as an everyday going to shops car, I think there are better options, lots and lots of electrical gremilins and they used to eat tyres, on the limit they are a handful and really quite scary. But the noise is probably the best available. They are a great second hand bargain as the depreciation is eye watering. Did I mention the noise..

GTRs are amazing but cheap and nasty inside and running costs are mmmmmmm well I hope you have deep pockets
Audi R8 are probably the best 'super car' available for day to day use, not very practical thou

Personally I would go BMW M5 F10, but that's me, sensible and a little boring. Unless people know what it is then it's just a 5series
