View Full Version : Volvo Dyno Shoot-out day at HLM, Bromsgrove - Saturday October 4th, 2014

Pages : [1] 2 3

Wobbly Dave
Tuesday 20th May 2014, 13:47
Power run day at HLM Bromsgrove (http://www.hlmtuning.co.uk/) on their Dynojet dyno (single roller)
35 of your English pounds in cash (1 pound surcharge for cards) on the day will secure you 3 runs including a print out on their rolling road.

It is assumed that the cars running on the dyno will have oil and water in the correct amounts in the right places beforehand, even so all owners will have to sign a disclaimer (full T&Cs available from HLM) so if your car does for some reason split it guts/rods or other important parts HLM are not liable.

HLM reserve the right refuse access onto the dyno for any vehicle at any time. They have the final say.

I would like to have numbers finalised on Tuesday 30th September 2014. I will be inviting all comers from all main Volvo Performance forums (T5D5 & VolvoTuning.net). I would prefer to limit to Volvo only but I am not that bothered.
I may even put up some trophies for the highest peak torque & highest peak power.

Teas & Coffee will be made available & Big Dave's cafe is but a short walk away (open from 07:30) who is more than capable of satisfying the largest appetites.

So getting tuning & Come and 'ave a go if you think you're fast enough.

Please put your names below if you're interested. (Unlimited numbers).

So I don't have to run the starlet if I don't want to?

That's good - I didn't wanna embarrass anybody with it's epic power figures :shifty:

AWD cars can run/ have been run - I believe that would involve removing the haldex fuse. Contact HLM if you are at all worried about it.

Can 'o worms... I fully realise this & no I am not getting drawn into the debate. It is technically possible but down to each AWD owner to consider it. Caveat - I don't think the viscous type AWD can be disconnected without some labour so lets not go there either.

Yep just a case of swapping ECU's mate, although you'll only get an off the shelf map. At £150 though the £ to grin factor ratio is very well proportioned!

I'm only after a small increase, it's 225 with a bleed valve but finding it to be like an on off switch so if I got 250 without it that would be more than enough for me, still reliable and hopefully a bit better on fuel (sad I know lol).

Is it a 4WD dyno?

Trip to Specsavers needed there, or his awd wheelbase is that short, that he can get all 4 wheels onto a single roller......lol

I fully realise this & no I am not getting drawn into the debate. It is technically possible but down to each AWD owner to consider it. Caveat - I don't think the viscous type AWD can be disconnected without some labour so lets not go there either.

I have heard of this being done on the haldex equipped cars, but personally if I had such a vehicle, I'd not do it just in case, It could be very costly if anything did go wrong and with my viscous type awd's I have here, I wouldn't drop the prop, has it would be a pain to do just for the dyno and wouldn't then be correct figures wise, as the transmissional losses would then have been altered

Just noticed you are AWD and this dyno is a single roller, just so you know, in the first page of this thread there was some discussion that haldex can be disabled to allow your car to run on a single roller, should you wish to, but whether it is wise to, I can not answer.

ok in you go no.23 and no wheel drive at present, but you were trying,a nice 2.2 for the 60ft shame about the 64 second 1/4 @ 21mph if I remember correctly + or - an mph

then again the blue corsa from around the corner from Pete had a brakedown on the strip at about the same point and managed a 44 second @ 12mph ....strange sport I'm sure the logic is right but sometimes it doesn't look right

It will be interesting to see what my remap does and as we get 3 runs id like to test just how much of an impact meth adds to my result. If anything it will be a nice comparrison to my 273.5 HP I got on my standard map to what I have now. It will be nice to what the remap and running 100% meth adds as it feels like a different car when the suspension behaves.

It does have corrosive tendancies but they arnt very high so you can use it for short term use. I flush my water injection system through with water after using 100% meth and dont store the meth in the system for long periods, usually goes in just for the day to be used. I added it on the jaunt to the EVO the other month to give the car a bit more umph.

i didnt do the work as the previous owner had already fitted the meth injection, ported and polished the head and shimmed the block and also fitted the cat back exhaust.

All i've really done since buying it is remap it and continually got strut mountings fixed as the coilovers that are currently on it arnt very good in my opinion hence why i've got some nice new bc racing coilovers. I have had the wishbones bolybushed and fixed a few little niggles on the car. I have plans to do down pipe and inter cooler and fit a boost gage this year but decided to do the clutch and flywheel 1st as the clutch was on the way out and didnt want to stress it much more.

I may do a project thread once I have the clutch fitted

But a project thread starts as you got the car, not halfway through the project. If you don't want to do one fine, but some of us would be interested to see how it progresses under your ownership. :D

Well the Dyno runs are done at the owners risk. I know Hamish is asking for a disclaimer to be signed to cover is ass so we don't sue him for damages.

The T5 is going to have a full check up and service before it goes in, I want to give it the best chance. I often thrash the trousers off it so I don't expect it to go bang, and I have the refurbished 16T remember. :)

I don't imagine that many cars go bang on the rollers though, law of averages means that it is inevitable at some point I suppose.

I've heard of melted pistons after remaps that weren't, shall we say..... tried and tested.

Details are still to be confirmed, but I expect that most of the money charged for the dyno runs will be donated.

Fair play to Hamish for this worthy cause.

Spoke to Hamish to acquire more detail on the Charidy aspect of the event. Each run will donate 5 pounds to MacMillan cancer support from the 35 pound run fee per car. I expect there will be a bucket for additional donations should anyone feel the oblov.

I will be helping with the running of the day with Clancy, as Hamish has no spare staff to assist. You will need to see me for signing disclaimers & paying for your runs.

For anyone running their car on the dyno the responsibility for the fitness to run, including ensuring adequate coolant & oil levels etc is firmly with you, as expressed in the Terms & Conditions of the disclaimer.

I will remind you all nearer the time.

You may change your mind about me once you've met me. Most people do and I'm probably one of the nicest people you'll ever meet although I'm politely frank with my opinions.

I've met you James and you seemed pretty quiet and unassuming in the flesh but on here you are a complete ££££££. And I would quite happily say that to your face. I've been known to open my mouth before engaging brain on several occasions but at the end of the day I say it how it is and if people don't like it then that's fine but I am who I am and I say my mind. I don't care if people don't like me, I'm not out to gain fans or supporters. If people like me then they like me for who I am. All you seem to do is rub people up the wrong way, bait them into biting and when they do you 'cry bully'. Then you start gloating if someone sides with you. If you take a step back and actually look at yourself, YOU are the bully. You try to make people look bad but at the end of the day you make yourself look stupid. I don't care if you don't like what I've said but I mean every word of it. If people don't agree then that's fine, I'm not going to get upset by it because everyone has their own opinion and view, something which you seem to forget. If I wrote a thread and it was full of mistakes and people corrected me on it I would thank them for guiding me and take on board their knowledge. If I didn't agree then I would discuss it using evidence for or against. I wouldn't just start throwing my dummy out of the pram and crying "bullying". I'm not gonna beat around the bush, I think you are a sad sad man. I actually respect you for having the guts to attempt some of the jobs you do because I haven't got the skills or the patience to do them but when people try and help and you ignore them or try arguing with them then you open yourself up to criticism. I'm gonna make a suggestion, Take your head out of your ar5e, Sit down one day in your security hut or your radio station studio and read through some of your threads again. You might suprise yourself with your pathetic attitude.

Well the car is currently running my original flywheel and pressure plate with an uprated clutch plate. I am still 'in discussion' with the company at present and hope to have it resolved in the week. I was really hoping to get at least the turbo fitted before next weekend but it's very unlikely now so no point in my putting my car on the dyno. I may still come for the social though.

Was that all in one breath????

I know, I'm gutted but I have too much on.

If anybody wants to take a load of video and pics and send it all to me, I'll happily knock a video together. I'm getting good at them now :)
