The cable size I would say 70mm2 to be on the safe side of things. 50mm2 might be a little bit small as it's a fair run.

I used 0gauge wire I'd already got wired in from the old stereo system. Ran the wire thru the bulkhead via the spare grommet under the abs ecu & originally down the sill (now goes down the transmission tunnel)

Plenty of gromet holes to push new cable through. Mine is behind the front passenger seat in the 850.

you sure? that's like 3" and 2" round! about 100kg of copper probably ;)

Considering battery swap too, i ran the ap wiring along the bottom of the car, but tunnel would probably be best as long as it's well clear of the exhaust?

If you like a read this is quite helpful as it's got a loss calculator in the link.

Do you not find it strange that the two people to have done it have non functioning cars. ;)

if you look at cars which have the battery in the boot from the factory (S60 & BMW's spring to mind) the wiring they use really isn't that thick, & i'm sure they wouldn't risk using it if there was a chance of overheating

Surely the best bet would be to have the battery cables out of a S60 that's being broken.

A S60R uses 70mm squared cable from the battery to the engine bay.

As I`m using some cable from one of the S60R I`ve broken for my battery to starter motor to alternator cable

it is an option. But the wire they use isn't anything special, plus all the hassle of getting it out of the shell & no doubt they run it under the car will make it a pain to get out

The thing is any of the car maker will get the cables made to the the size required down to the mm2 that they required,to save weight & costs.
But if you go and buy battery cable it will be 35mm2 or 50mm2 or 75mm2 ,you don't get much choice over the counter, on a 10m roll.

On the S60R the cable runs under the carpet/soundproofing.

Mines in the boot, ran the cables under the car, has megafuses at each end

The cable runs to a powerstud mounted on the inner wing.
