As the title says.. Has anyone used one?

Do you really need one?
Are they only needed if you are planning to reuse the clutch? It seems that a new clutch will come already locked out.
Is there a 'Bodge'n'Scarper' alternative to the £150-200 specialist tool?

Story is that I've got a few weeks to examine a Golf MK5 with a potential dodgy DMF and clutch. Car is going for sale so we want to get away with doing the minimum. I don't want to replace the clutch if on inspection the unit is fine with ok wear.

If its adjusted via the preasure plate then it can be done with out the special tool.

Thanks, but is it true that a new clutch comes locked out?

So if I commit to doing the job it is definitely a new clutch at a minimum?

i honestly dont know bud, but we have had 2 intances where the new clutch judder's soon after fitment when the tool has not been used. Both clutch's insedently where Sachs units, and where fitted along with New DMF and Slaves.

Car is supposed to be on axle stands, but following brake failure on the V40 I'm driving it still.
