idle valve

I might be having issues with my idle valve and after looking on parts for Volvo at the prices (£215.00) im wondering if there's an alternative solution, besides just bypassing it :)
My 850r is over revving quite a bit and when the idle valve is disconnected the revs settle so im guessing its the fault. It seems there's a small crack in the plastic pipe after the maf sensor but would that cause erratic revs?
