View Full Version : Under car brace bars, any good?

So whilst browsing ebay for Volvo parts (nothing in particular) I came across some under-car bracing bars. What do we think to these? Combined with uprated anti-roll bars, front and rear strut braces and some poly bushes, would this improve handling?

I think it looks quite good, but am unsure if they would be worth the money?

Pedro has them on BT I believe, unfortunately as the car never moves he has no idea whether they're any good or not. ;)

As said she hasn't been on the road to try them, but jacking her up now results in lifting the whole car up so think it's made it a bit stiffer

Thanks for that Pedro. That does look to make the car very stiff!!

However they affect the handling, they do look good! Add them to some decent anti-roll bars and it should make a big difference. I think i'll be adding them to my wish-list :)

Haven't looked at the prices, but I think I paid £250 for the set. I'm planning on getting them welded together to make it a one piece frame

Where i've just found it on eBay, it comes to £426

Where did you get it for that price?!

what are the mounting points for the brace on the front? would think that would have the most effect, not sure about the others.
Would be easy to make, although i'm at about 4" road clearance, which already means a few clunks and scrapes along the bottom!

I go them direct from ultra racing, they even met me half way so didn't have to pay for delivery

They appear to do a rear lower sway bar. Would this be in addition to the rear lower brace and the anti-roll bars? I'm so confused!

The front holes on the forward brace bolt thru spare holes already in the subframe, the rear mounting points of the brace bolt to plate covering the subframe mounting bolts

How much :yikes:

Just go to your local breakers and remove the rear sway bar from a C70 as it`s a 23mm sway bar. simples :)

If the cabbie gets written off I might steal the rear ARB (not sway bar that's american :P) off it. ;)

Bolts straight on to the 850 and P1 V/S70 :)

In the Alfa world people seem to rate Ultra Racing braces on the GTV, they're a bit slow with delivery not being off the shelf items I don't think. But the select few people with the full setup seem to be happy with them (similar set up to this setup). Ok, that doesn't really help with these cars but they are sexy things. I think I'll get some IPD Anti Roll bars for the AWD soon (it bloody needs some!) :)

I have the IPD ones front & rear & meyle HD ARB drop links. Had a few issues with the yank supplied bushes but overall they've been OK.

thats a good point, took them several months for mine to turn up. They had to be shipped from Malaysia, & possibly made out there first

They were a lot cheaper to buy direct from Malaysia, but the last time I tried they referred me back to a European supplier at an inflated price. I originally had 3 H braces sent from Malaysia at less than one costs from Ebay!

I have the brace off a C70 cabby on mine ;)

Fits alot closer to the chassis than the Ultra Racing ones do :)

Haha, I wish you lot would get on with those cars so we can see 'em in action!

I think i'll go with front & rear braces with front and rear strut braces and uprated ARBs and that'll do me. Next year though, after my engine work.

I have one of those but it's still on the cabbie, makes changing the downpipe a real PITA.

I think mine likes living in the shed, every time I take her outside, she breaks something!

Quite the opposite of mine then! Lived in the garage for two years (will be 2yrs in August) and every time it comes out, it get's new parts :) I've had great fun creating a shopping list of stuff this past couple of days ready for when it's back to being my only car!
