Meet Teapot, picked up from Dan850r last week……so named due to the puffs of steam coming out of the front end and the handle-like S70 spoiler at the back end (no offence Dan, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that :))

Sat next to Teapot, my S70 looks like a caricature of the 850. From the ‘for sale’ advert, the car has had quite a bit of work done over it’s 180k plus life….

Converted from auto to manual with single mass flywheel and external slave cylinder
850r clutch fitted at same time
Newer engine with 140k fitted 4 months ago due to oil starvation (from Claymore’s T5K car I am told although I can’t find the supercharger anywhere!! Must be in the post)
Hlm 304 ecu
16t angled turbo
me7 manifold
3" decatted downpipe
3" ported throttle body
ported inlet manifold
blue injectors
reverse intercooler pipework
3" intake hose with new airfilter and cold airfeed (standard air box, better than anything else!)
koni yellow adjustable shocks
eibach springs
mtec grooved discs
feroddo ds2500 pads
new bottom arms (polybushed)
air fuel ratio guage
boost gauge
oil pressure gauge
new cambelt approx 10k ago
new plugs, leads, cap and arm at same time
new fuel filter
S70 boot spoiler

Some kind of dump valve has been fitted….I’m not a fan of them in general but not an expert so who knows.

The interior is in really good nick as posted up by Dan. Loads of gauges to look at....

http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u565/jamesy12345/IMG_20140411_181853_zpsd6e4e171.jpg (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/jamesy12345/media/IMG_20140411_181853_zpsd6e4e171.jpg.html)

WE ALL LIVE IN A….nuclear submarine

Nothing left to do then I guess….apart from giving it some tender loving care……..but first…..

The nitrous install:

Pull insides out of Schrader valve on inlet manifold and fit adaptor to compression fitting for nylon tubing

http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u565/jamesy12345/IMG_20140411_181455_zps6a052ed5.jpg (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/jamesy12345/media/IMG_20140411_181455_zps6a052ed5.jpg.html)

Boost pressure switched fitted between turbo and intercooler. Current set up is at 7 psi will switch the system off.

http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u565/jamesy12345/IMG_20140411_181502_zps40312ba6.jpg (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/jamesy12345/media/IMG_20140411_181502_zps40312ba6.jpg.html)

Nitrous and fuel solenoids mounted where they will get some cool air. Also just visible is the throttle microswitch, set to switch the system on at wide open throttle or thereabouts.

http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u565/jamesy12345/IMG_20140411_181515_zps4ac29300.jpg (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/jamesy12345/media/IMG_20140411_181515_zps4ac29300.jpg.html)

Injection point for the nitrous/fuel mixture just upstream of throttle body. The nitrous is behind (upstream of) the fuel injection point to disperse the fuel….atomise I think the word is.

http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u565/jamesy12345/IMG_20140411_181527_zps68a58408.jpg (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/jamesy12345/media/IMG_20140411_181527_zps68a58408.jpg.html)

Nitrogen bottle bolted to the boot floor, with regulating valve and pressure safety valve.

http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u565/jamesy12345/IMG_20140411_181553_zps74901e7d.jpg (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/jamesy12345/media/IMG_20140411_181553_zps74901e7d.jpg.html)

….and a gauge to show when the bottle is pressurized. Not really necessary but another gauge can’t hurt this car.
.
http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u565/jamesy12345/IMG_20140411_181613_zps81e3705e.jpg (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/jamesy12345/media/IMG_20140411_181613_zps81e3705e.jpg.html)

[Edit: I forgot to add - the 5mm nitrous supply tubing runs through the car from the offside rear to the nearside front, going through a spare grommet on the bulkhead.]

And finally! The main switch fitted to where the antenna/aerial on-off switch is sometimes fitted.

http://i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u565/jamesy12345/IMG_20140411_181817_zpsc8832244.jpg (http://s1322.photobucket.com/user/jamesy12345/media/IMG_20140411_181817_zpsc8832244.jpg.html)

So basically it is acting as an ant-lag system. Not really necessary for a 16T I know but there you go – it was pretty brutal until something went pop!

this must go very well on full throttle !

I've been wanting to do this for a while.........it's only got the 25 hp jets in for now, and like I said switches off at only 7 psi. The temptation is there is stick bigger nitrous/fuel jets in there (I have some 50 hp ones) and wind the boost pressure switch up so the nitrous comes in longer.......if the T-5R project is too much for me I will sell it on and pop the nitrous on the S70. That would be interesting on an auto......

I got there in the end Col!

About the engine, I think I have broken something already .....during some 'enthusiastic' driving (off nitrous as it happened), it felt like I hit a wall - almost no boost and grey smoke out of the rear end. The AFR gauge was reading 10 but probably only because this was as low as it would go. Fuel consumption went right up and there was a smell of petrol.......:) doh

Cheers lads I love the colour also. You probably know better than me but only 500 of these made worldwide (according to Wikipedia anyway). I've got to say I'm still feeling the love for my S70 but time will tell.......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_850#T-5R

It ran really really well but had trouble getting the power down, even in third. According to a previous owner who shall remain nameless, it could happily crack an indicated 160 mph :)

I don't know mate...there are just too many good cars to be had in the world :)

The T-5R is a bit special but the S70 is just so easy to drive.......I already have a brutal noisy manual but I knew that before I bought it (the 850). If all my choices were down to my head alone, rather than other organs, then I wouldn't be where I am today (writing this :D). Plus I think the nitrous would work really well on an auto, if it was set up right.

Can I go 50/50 or phone a friend?

I do like a green saloon T5R! Great choice!

Nitrogen: madness! The only car i've been in with it before was a '95 2.0 turbo Corsa and that was freaking insane!

Quite a good spec otherwise, any idea what power it's running sans nitro?

Sorry just noticed this, prior to fitting a new engine the seller mentioned that he saw about 309 hp. The mods from the old engine were transferred to the new one. No idea but felt pretty rapid even without N2O

made to the power output :)

After something went pop I have only reduced it :)

+25 hp on the nitrous so I am told. If that comes in at about 2000 rpm then that is around +88 Nm at that point. But it switches off at 7 psi anyway just using it to get the turbo spinning (not that it needs it!!)

only just seen this.....did you swap the header tank ok? the graph I posted was on a dyno local to me, before it had the 3"dp and a few other things done to it. the 309 was at hlm afterwards. but the engine off colin pulled way better than my old 180K one. shame I never had that on the rollers

It felt pretty quick Dan, even before the nitrous. No worries about the header tank - I made across Snake Pass then back home no probs :)

Oh dear, change of plans....I will need to sell Teapot. Is anyone interested, not looking to break it, nitrous kit will be included

It would need trailering away from Newcastle as it has no MOT. Tax til September though! It was running really rich when it was parked up - possibly the vacuum hose to the pressure regulator has gone but I'm not 100%

Comes with the fancy document holder too :)

A bit of a Crystal Maze challenge for you guys...

Battery flat on the T-5R, drivers door lock doesn't work....how did I activate the central locking & get into it (no damage, no jacking car up to get to the starter solenoid)

forgot to add, provisionally sold, to the first forum member to see it earlier this year just after I bought it and whacked the nitrous kit on
