Hiya guys,

Just thought I'd come and signup and read all of the existing posts. I'm about to trade in my Rover 220 coupe tubby in favour of a T5 .. not sure which one yet, but have a limited budget of £3k.

I'm after a sleeper (reason for trading in the Rover is constant vandalism :wtf: ), but will be looking at getting the ECU remapped if it hasn't been already.

Any advice/suggestions appreciated :)

Cheers

Mark

:welcome:

It is a good plan. You may still be in luck. Talk to Justin (our illustrious webmaster) and you might be able to get your hands on his ex- which I think may be for sale. She has already got all the bits you will ever need (including a ECU remap from Volvotuning)

Plan A - get Nookie (I know we should not be naming cars)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4522749331&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT

Plan B - If she has gone - get reading (there is tonnes of info on here) - find the one you want (with our help of course) and get it down Volvotuning and wack a RICA remap on. Hello 300bhp+!

:thewave:

Enjoy the forum.

BTW where in the Midlands are you? More than happy to show you the finer points of a T5 - the models, the specs etc.

Cheers for the replies Dave :D

Justin's car does indeed look like just the ticket. I'll drop him a PM, thanks. I'm in Redditch, and have been using HLM (which I'm assuming is also Volvotuning based on what Hamish has said?) for the last 18 months for servicing the Rover. He's given me some great advice, and saved me lots of money on useless mods.

I've been meaning to give him a call to ask for advice, but thought I'd come here and get some facts straight first :D

Whereabouts are you mate? I'd love to be shown around one, as I've not had the pleasure as yet.

Cheers

Mark

I am in Northfield - so spitting distance from you! Blat down the redditch bypass - I should co-co!

Mine is a RICA'd 850R. Justin's soon to be gone is in Blackheath - so you will not have far to go - especially if you have the readies ready!

If you have nothing on tomorrow - I will happily meet up. Give us a bell - and I will see if we can't muster a few T5's.

Welcome to the forum!!!! :)

The T5 is the ultimate sleeper and you cant go wrong with a RICA remap!! Nobody ever expects you to obliterate them off the lights in a big old brick LOL!!!! Plus as you said earlier - you'll get no jealousy dints and scratches

Thanks again Dave/Mrsmopp.

Dave - I vaguely know Northfield, although I only really know the high street. Justin's actually just called me. I was going to say I'm available this afternoon or tonight to meet up, but it looks like I may be going for a test drive in Nookie this afternoon :D I'll get back to you regarding meeting up with you later if that's ok?

Mrsmopp - I'm very intrigued to see how they compare to the Rover. On paper atleast, there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of difference in 0-60 time or anything, but the torque figure is over double :D

Mrsmopp

:thewave: Have fun in Nookie!!! I'm sure she will blow you away!! And all that torque steer makes for a fun drive!!!

Got a quotation on my insurance earlier for Nookie - about £250 a year more expensive than the Rover. I wasn't expecting that, given that all mods are declared, and the Rover has a fair few

Oh well, I might save some money on petrol (or oil) or something ;) Speaking of which, any ideas what sort of mpg I should be expecting from her? I was getting around 21mpg before.

Money is in place now... must... go.... drive :D

Welcome aboard

I too am a ex Rover driver prior to my Ricer Racer.

But I always knew I'd have a Volvo one day, and when my first was on the way it gave me the excuse I needed :rainfro:

Fantastic kit are the T5's !

I'd shop around if I were you for your insurance, its group 16 but I wouldn't expect it to be more than a modded Rover. Expect to get 30mpg on a good steady run and around 20mpg booting it!!!

Its also a grey area whether you should disclose the mod as rica is undetectable.

That fantastic that Mark has bought Nookie :)

Collects her next week, we had a quick run up the M5, he will be taking her out himself very soon so he can experience the tradesmens seat ;)

Nice to meet you mate.

Cheers guys, I'll add a more detailed reply later as I have a mate over now.

Was great to meet you Justin. Lovely car and very smooth ride. Can't wait to have a go in her myself :D

Yay!! :thewave:

I hope you will still take the time to meet up soon.

As far as insurance goes - Nookie is completely standard - even the strut brace is a genuine volvo part. The RICA is entirely down to your own conscience - as it is undetectable.

Elephant and confused tend to be OK.

Anyway - We must meet up next week (soon after delivery I hope).

Best place is the Shell garage on the Bristol Rd. Give us a shout.

Nookie will know it... she has been there many times before

turbo is a jet engine (of sorts) :stupid:
But you know what I mean - it isn't like this discussion hasn't been had, many times before, Pedro?

Right, in reverse order...

Dave - absolutely mate. Will definitely be up for meeting you, and anyone else who can make it along. I've been very active on the Rover meets front over the last few years, and hope to do the same with respect to Volvo meets. The strut brace is going with Justin, as agreed, so that's not a problem. I do tend to declare everything on the insurance though. I'll let Nookie lead the way to the shell garage, although I'm sure I can find it at a push :D

Regarding the insurance companies, I won't go near Elephant due to my brother's past experience with them. I will give other companies a bell and see what they say though. Only problem is, I don't have the money for a fresh policy at the moment, so the £160 charge to transfer my existing policy is looking like the only option for now. Come renewal date in September and it'll be a different matter though.

Justin - my dad's with Natwest mate, so if you PM me your details, I'll get the transfer setup ASAP (friday/monday). It would be superb if I could have the car some time over the weekend, but I need to sort something out with the insurance co, as I still need to be able to drive the Rover next week or two atleast, for the respray etc... If the worst comes to the worst, I may have to ask you to drive her to Redditch for me on the monday, if that's ok with you, and garage Nookie for a week or two, but that's very much a last resort. Obviously I'll then drop you back wherever you need to be. As for a little razz myself in the meantime, just let me know when you're free mate.

Lance - cheers for the links mate, I'll give both of them a go.

Mrsmopp - group 16? :wow: I think my insurance co. are trying to take advantage of me... the Rover's group 17, more of a target, lots more mods, and covered for a 20% increase in power too. I'm going to phone up and moan!

Bracer - lmao @ Ricer Racer. I sooooo nearly went for a mk5 Prelude 2.2 v-tec. Couldn't believe it when I remembered Volvos, about a week after starting to think about replacements. Definitely glad I didn't rush out and buy one now :D

lmao @ you guys (and gal) :D

I've spoken to Adrian Flux, the reason for the price difference (ok, I can see that in a screwed up world, it kinda makes sense, although it really shouldn't), is that the underwriters of my policy class a 220 turbo as a "performance car", and a group 20 vehicle. Therefore I'm eligable for a performance car policy, for which Adrian Flux get very good discounts.

The underwriter will have to remain the same when I change car on the policy, but as the T5 is a group 16 car with them, I'm no longer eligable for the performance policy, hence Adrian Flux's nice discount.

Justin - just to let you know mate, the insurance is sorted. They won't let me get cover on the T5 and have the Rover as a 2nd car as the Rover is higher value and higher insurance group, but I can do it the other way around and keep the policy going as is, but add the T5 to it for a couple of weeks, for the princely sum of £42.

So, I just need to let 'em know the license plate no etc... and I'll be covered as of friday, just incase :D

Can anyone tell me the make/model no. of headunit in Nookie please? Also, any details on the speakers etc? I've heard that T5's sometimes come with dynaudio drivers?

Picked her up earlier today (cheers Justin :D ).. drove around 200-250 miles over the course of the day, think I've figured out what most of the buttons do, and all I can say is "OMFG" :)

Have already had the speaker grilles off, looking at different options. The easy options have pretty much all been discounted for one reason or another, so I think I'll have to get that fibreglass kit out again ;)

Again, thanks to Justin for an effortless purchase, and sure I'll be seeing some of you guys soon.

Any automatic owners here and do they remap using the RICA ? Would the auto transmission die prematurely due to pedal-to-the-metal habit or during quick launches ? How much (including the ECU) please ?

Dave !

where is he :shifty:

I am here - and stop shouting!

I nuked my AT at 146K. I have the 304 bhp RICA. The main reason that it died was not the extra power - but down to power braking (using Left foot braking and 2200rpm to build boost prior to launch). The sprag clutches were pretty badly done over. I have spent a lot of money getting it fixed. I have learnt the hard way so you lot don't have to.

I am currently developing an additional ATF coolant system that goes in-line with the stock cooler - as a precautionary measure - in order to stop the ATF getting too hot. The main issue at the moment is trying to mount the 13 row pressed plate cooler behind the O/S grill in the front splitter. I am still figuring it all out. I am then hoping to offer it as a modification to the members of this forum. The cost is yet to be ascertained. I am a little bit more cautious on these things as I do not wish to have to fit a new gearbox again before the end of the life of the car.
