I have a s60 d5 2002, 150k and love the car, I do 900
Miles a week for work, but since I've owned it when the fuel gauge or miles left shows
120 I run out of fuel. Someone mentioned a pump in the tank, any one had this before? It can show 200miles too empty
Then 20 miles later it suddenly drops when I corner hard! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

I 'think' this happened to me in the V70. Said I had 120 mile left in the tank and stopped.
Called the AA and they dragged me to Cullompton services and got it started with easy start, and the needle had suddenly dropped and the light was on. Hasn't done it since but now I'm wary of taking it long distance.

I was always advised not to let these cars run so low as the pump inside the tank is cooled by the fuel...the lower the fuel level the more chance of the pump overheating.

Not sure how true it is but it makes sense....I always refill when the range drops to 200 mile.

My fuel gauge doesn't work at all any more, it's caused by a fault with my sender unit.

I had an s60 d5 which ran out of fuel even though the dash said half a tank still, they have 2 sender units in the tank and one was stuck as it was slightly off rotation (they have an arrow pointing back) took both out and refitted correctly and alls good
