Was wondering if any body knew whether there was an oil stat on the T-5R, to control the oil temperature, where the oil pipes from the rad oil cooler connect to the engine by the crank pulley ? or is it wise to fit an oil stat ? and where is it best fitted position ?

There is an oil stat in that housing on the side of the sump

Thank you JT, that was what I thought, Just wanted to comfirm it, as I'm looking to fit an external oil cooler and didn't want the oil to get to cold, I had assumed by design the block the the pipes connect to, from the rad cooler, that it had some sort of by-pass built in to it, so all I need to do now is cut the ferrells of the steel pipes, at the stat end and swage on some nice braided ptfe hose with some suitable hose tails for the cooler, the mount brackets look as if they will be the most time consuming bit of the job.

Exactly what I intend to do, all be it in braided s/steel hose, the cooler cost seems to vary quite a lot and mountings will have to be fabricated and an oil temp gauge fitting to keep an eye on things, plenty to keep me busy and at the rate I'm going it won't all get done before avon...lol

not seen anywhere to buy a new one, won't fit second hand oil cooler as you don't know what crap is lurking inside ready to pop out and destroy an engine, have known this happen to a couple of the local rally boys, new is going to be the safest option
