Hi all, am hoping you may be able to cast some light on this curious little problem and advise on another, I'll be very grateful if you can help!

Firstly, I've had my car, a 1999 V70 2.0 Torslanda (what does Torslanda mean then??? ) for 6 weeks or so now, it's got 102K miles on but has been well looked after and serviced correctly, it hasn't missed a beat so far and I'm very pleased with it.................. until.............

I nipped out for some shopping yesterday, parked outside 1 shop and it restarted fine as usual, went to another left it for about 20 minutes, when I tried to restart it, it wouldn't start, was cranking over fine, just not firing, after about 10 minutes of trying, lucky it's got a new battery on, it fired then stalled again, tried again for another 5 or so minutes and it started again, this time it kept running and I got home no problem, have tried starting it about 10 times today and have been out in it with no problems............ very odd, any ideas please?

Now, someone is bound to suggest checking under the bonnet.......... as I would myself! BUT, the bloody bonnet won't open! I pull the catch under the dash and only one side (passenger side) will pop up, the driver side will not open!!! Very annoying!
So my 2nd question is, how the hell do I open the bonnet when the release lever doesn't open both sides? HELP!!!

:slap:

Many thanks in advance for any help.

The starting problem: - I've had this problem with other vehicles in the past, in particular a 340 & a 440Xi. Not sure what causes it, but it sometimes happens if the engine is warm/hot when starting, I think it something to do with the fuel vapourising incorrectly. The cure I've found that works is hold the throttle down, until it catches, this aloows more air into the inlet.
Hope this is all it is and not something more sinister.
Can't help with the bonnet I'm afraid.

Torslanda is where the Volvo factory is - it's an suburb of Gothenburg, Sweden

As the engine starts and then stops you may find that it is a problem with the immobiliser ring arounf the ignition switch. It "talks" to the key and will imobilse the engine if there is no match. This has been a problem on my 1999 V70 T5 and so far I have had 3 fitted. Apparantly according the Volvo specialist that I use it is a common problem. The part is about £20 + VAT + fitting. It can easily be diagnosed by checking the error codes with an appropriate reader.
Hope this helps

Now there's the funny thing...................

I actually had a different key and fob with me as my helpful lady had taken the other one (that we normally use) out with her.

Certainly sounds probable.

Many many thanks to all though for the suggestions, still need to get under the bonnet!

I also have had a duff key. When I found out then it was binned...after being hacksawed first.
