When I had my t4, I had an audi 80 at the same time and the audi was a lovely cruiser. When driving it, you just wanted to cruise around listening to music, then you got in the t4 (mildly modded) and it had such a different personality, it just felt eager to go as soon as you touched the throttle.

Thanks to James for selling me a lovely car.
I have never driven another modified 850 other than my own, and am very pleased that it seems very tame in comparison, it did pull well and boosted to 1.2 bar but just didn't have the urgency of the T5K.

Sounds like you're over the moon with it indeed! Like you said if it's that different to your T-5K then it makes the current mods all the more worthwhile especially when you consider a T5 powered 850 with 1.2 bar isn't exactly what would be classed as slow... Be good to see it at the RR event :)

Yep, I'm looking forward to seeing what it does on the rollers, I have a couple of little tweaks I want to do before then, even though it has new suspension on it, I was again amazed at how poor the standard handling is on these, after gradually modifying the other car over 4 years, you don't notice the improvements until you drive another one, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this car, but the other one is in a different league.

Sorry Adrian I completely missed this!

Yeah I had a 2008 Titanium X Sport 2.2 TDi Mondeo that the Police rather kindly decided to "park" or should I say crash into during some sort of what I can only assume was a persuit. It was parked on the road outside. First I heard was when the Police Sgt who was sent as the officer who crashes supervisor knocked on the door to tell me.

Unfortunately no pics... I was too angry to even think about it and it was hiab away the same night :(

I was too angry to even think about it and it was hiab away the same night :(

you don't seem to have much luck with some of your motors, good job you weren't in it at the time, did it do much damage Emlyn ?

One of the problems I've found with RIP kits is the way they all (all the ones I've made) seem to gradually ride up and eventually pop off the turbo, the original top pipe has a bracket to stop this happening, so today I just took the original bracket put a 90 degree bend in the bottom and bolted it to the cam cover, problem solved, RIP top pipe is now solid.
I also replaced the top part with one piece instead of two.

Original as I had the car:

Modified with bracket:

Time to update this thread a bit, not a lot happening really, it's just the daily work horse, all I've done really is put some tatty pegs on it, and this weekend it will have a repaired TC splitter fitted. so have some pictures.

a bit of fiberglass soon sorted it out and some old paint I had lying around.

very nice, it will be interesting to see what the rolling road says that translates too, guessing that is 21-23psi by the angle of the gauge

I'll either drop it back down to about 18psi for the dyno, or if i get a chance I'll fit the co2 spray bar onto the intercooler, and keep the boost at 23psi. and up the fuel pressure just a tad.

I was just wondering as mine is running similar pressures and running nice with exception of the boost leak problem but as soon as 4250-5250 rpm clears it's going like a trooper, might get time to drop the intercooler in before the meet, it would be interesting to compare them again.

New (old) boost gauge fitted, and set up a duel stage boost control as well as the mbc, so now I can have standard mapped boost of 1.3 bar or when I flick the switch it enables my boost pressure switch which will trigger 1.6 bar as soon as it sees 1.1 bar which should mean less wheel spin in first and second as boost is limited and then all boost after that :) hopefully make launching at Shakey a bit better next month ;)

OK, update on the charge cooler, initial monitoring has shown up a couple of interesting results, firstly, I've made an airbox so that air from the bonnet vent can go directly to the filter, inside the ducting there is a small fan that I can switch on when the car is stationary (works really well) the first surprise is so far I see no correlation with the temp of the air going into the air filter and the air going into the intake manifold. (I'll do some more testing by blocking off the bonnet vent and taking the airbox lid off so that the air filter is again taking in engine bay temps) engine intake temps seems to be a steady 6 to 10 degrees hotter than the outside temp.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/T-5R/20170326_143628.jpg (http://s170.photobucket.com/user/claymore2k/media/T-5R/20170326_143628.jpg.html)

Two red gauges are temps in and out of the charge cooler, the blue gauges monitor engine bay temp and airbox temp.

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u258/claymore2k/T-5R/20170329_155725.jpg (http://s170.photobucket.com/user/claymore2k/media/T-5R/20170329_155725.jpg.html)

One more result I wasn't expecting was, the fan on the radiator actually seems to have the opposite effect, (I've made sure it's blowing through the rad) when I put it on, it seems to cause heat from the cars engine coolant rad to be drawn into the charge cooler rad. I have a cunning plan to get over this small issue :)

You need a neater all in one solution for your temp gauges, wouldn't be hard to connect all the sensors to an arduino clone (cheaper) and display them on a small screen.

It would be just as easy to just get 4 suitable 5v thermistors, how big is the lcd? Also, I might need to have a chat about making a 7" display for the T-10.

Yes that would save any messing with converting voltages.

The lcd is only 2.4 inches same as my data display project (ignore how slow the refresh is, I have a faster processor on it now, just need to do another video):

A 7" display might need a different arduino (more connections) to run but it's not impossible to do. Other ways to do it are to use an arduino to process the signals from the sensors and output the data to a raspberry pi to do the data display stuff as the pi has video outputs.

I've just bought a starter kit and a pack of assorted sensors to have a play with, more for front splitter and rear wing control, I think it's time I made some sort of effort to learn this stuff, but would love for you to make me some sort of display for the temp sensors.

Cool, if you check out banggood.com they have loads of arduino prototyping boards and the like cheaper than you can get them here in the uk, they're good for playing with. I have a test board setup on a bit of perspex with a breadboard stuck next to it for mocking things up and testing code. It's only basic but it does what I need it to.

Would the 2.4 inch screen be ok for your temps gauge?

2.4" screen would fit in the air vent quite nicely, perhaps 4 bar graphs instead of numbers as a quick visual display?

Just been looking at the nextion displays, absolutely perfect for the T-10 dashboard, either one big 7" screen or maybe two 3.5" screens to display each engine and a small 2.4" for the speedo

Did some quick code for the temperature display. And since it was raining I thought I'd fit it in the vent so you can get an idea of what it would be like (colours are a bit washed out in the pic but are really nice in reality)

I like the nextion stuff, too expensive for me though. Plus I like the challenge of making it myself.

I've got some spare clocks and was looking the other day at how I could fit an lcd into them

They do look ok but still missing that wow factor, they're functional enough at the moment.

I had to upgrade to a different processor for my display as it has to deal with all the converting of the streamed data from the ecu (some 40 odd variables) and some of those include division which eats processing power. I'm trying to get a video of it working but Mrs Dave has trouble keeping the camera still when I'm driving.

Anyway, I digress....

small update on my temp monitoring, airbox temp definitely has no effect on intake temps, BUT engine bay temps really do, on the open road with ambient at 15 degrees, the intake temp will be around 20 degrees, (with engine bay temp at around 20 degrees) In traffic the bay temps can climb over 60 degrees and the air going into the charge cooler can climb from 30 to 40 degrees and intake temps will rise to 25 degrees. once on the open road the temps come down again.

if you do, please remember to put safety overrides into the system. Mate had the keyfob start on his VW van, didn't fit the switch to stop it from starting if it was left in gear. Did exactly that, started in gear & being a diesel had the torque to actually start the engine. He jumped in front to try & stop it, ended up with a titanium bar in his leg after being crushed between the van & a house

Hmm not good.

Yeah would probably put a couple of switches on the gear lever mech.

Lol, all the gear, no idea, I've got an Arduino uno, mega and duo, and am going to get an ESP32, I've got a couple of screens but I'm still waiting for my Nextion screen to arrive, but I wouldn't mind having a copy of your sketch to play with.

Dangerous Dave

I too was looking at the ESP32 as it has more inputs than the ESP8266

No worries, it is set up to use an ILI9341 library which has the faster draw functions than the standard adafruit libaries.
