View Full Version : Oil pressure with different grades of oil

Just wondering has anyone done this.
If you put 0w30 oil in you engine what is the oil pressure at 800 rpm then 2000rpm then say 5000rpm,then if you changed the oil to 5w40 what are the changes and with 10w40 & 10w60,I know the pump blow off should/will work at the same pressure but you should get a higher oil pressure at lower RPM's with thicker oil.
Ok it will change when the oil is very hot but I mean in day to day use.
Is there a chart about this any where ?.

I don't think it makes a massive difference mate when the oil is warmed up

See the last graph in the second link - above 70-75 degrees, everything from 5W-30 to 20W-50 is about the same

When it is up to temperature - a 0W-40 oil and a 10W-40 are the exactly the same viscosity (SAE 40)
