A V70 D5! Having owned a couple of T5s and more recently a 2.5T S60 I was looking for a V70 for canine reasons. I have always tended towards faster petrol cars but after looking at various T5s and D5s I settled on a 185 bhp D5. I was a bit disappointed when I test drove it as it seemed to vibrate and be noisy after my petrol but the garage said it had been diagnosed with a worn engine mount so when it was fixed I went back and tried again. Much better! In fact they had replaced 3 mounts so no wonder really. Almost a week on and I'm happy. Its doing almost double mpg over my 2.5T and to be honest is not noticeably slower. It will spin the tyres in 2nd gear if you are rough and like all Volvos tends to over-steer when pushed but this has just been the experimental week and I doubt I will experience that in day to day use. Some tight wad has removed the mats and the rear luggage blind if anyone has some cluttering their garage up and there's no heated seats despite the full leather. I'm getting nesh in my old age.
I have had no time to do anything to the car yet. I've ordered a can of BG244 cleaner and have a creaky drivers seat to sort and 2 annoying buzzy rattles that sound like trim over both rear door areas. The steering wheel is slightly off centre too so I will get tracking checked just in case. I'm running 32psi all round at the moment but if anyone has an opinion I'm interested and I'm assuming normal diesel as opposed to the higher ultra style? Sorry to witter on but I'm pretty chuffed!

Good choice.
The rattles are likely to be the slot the seatbelt runs through, mine rattle a little sometimes.
The steering wheel shouldn't be off center but make sure you get a proper alignment done on a hunter system that xchecks the geometry of all 4 wheels and chassis - the rear camber can go out on these and if you're getting oversteer, I'd suspect something to be out at the back.
Ultra diesel will make it go faster with better MPG but it's down to what you want from the car.

For tyre pressures I would stick with what the sticker says on your fuel flap.

Would be interested to know what the rattle turn out to be. I get it too in my S60 D5. Not investigated yet but keep meaning to. It goes away if you JUST crack the window. I suspect the scraper trim on the window.

not got to the bottom of the rattle yet. I locked one of the kids in and went for a drive but she could nt find it. My rear wiper now has come over all feminine...works sometimes and not others...likewise the green light and switch on the stalk which controls the rain sensitive wipers. Im guessing the stalk?

Check the stalk connections first inside the steering column. Make sure you haven't got a dry joint in the plug. Unplug, clean with electrical cleaner then reconnect.

Is it just a matter of removing the steering column shroud to check the wiring?

The rattle which disappears when you just drop the window is likely to be the door card against the scraper. Both my rears did this until I ran a bead of oil into the gap ie: lubricate the interface between the door card and the scraper NOT the scraper and the window. If you get in the back and gently knock or push the door card towards the window you should here the same sound. Mine has stopped permanently since oiling. Good luck - it was doing my head in!

I had a fault with my auto wipers, which was my own fault if you hold the button down it will log a fault as (sticking switch if you hold it on for more than 30secs ) when the codes are looked at.

Well Im sure I will have done that when I prodded and poked everything in frustration. Disconnect battery to clear or trip to stealer?
