i have a problem with my 1994 940 2litre turbo volvo.
currently mods:
straight through exhaust
air filter, not sure what maf it is
unknown ebay turbo (guessing its an ebay one anyway)
i was told it has uprated injectors... there brown...is that uprated lol?
i was told it was chipped also but who knows.

the problem is that when driven or revved hard ocasionally the exhaust emissions/ lambda light will pop up and it will just cut the the power untill the revs fall below 3k and you can rev it again like a sort of limp mode. when revving it on the spot it tends to put the light on when it pops a flame. the other fault with it is that it has a lumpy tickover. i dont know if the problem could be related or it could just be a dirty idle valve along side the other problem.
otherwise i was thinking its either just overfueling from having the bigger injectors or maybe the maf playing up.
the cars purpose is just to be a cheap drift banger while my skylines off the road so dont really want to be throwing alot of money at it replacing unnessasary parts.

i have tried checking the error codes which came up clear. but the battery is nackard so it was on jump leads while performing the test, not sure if this could affect the results. but i did put the jump leads on....start it up and get the fault to come up then test the codes all while the jump leads where on so it shouldnt have lost the code again should it?

Take the number off the injectors and the maf too and be able to check what they are .what boost are you running and it sounds like boost cut to me .also what chips are fitted .

i think its only running something like 6psi, will double check tho. il get numbers aswell, as for chips i wouldnt have a clue? how can i find out? never done anything with chipable ecus before...will i be able to find out by simply looking at the ecu for it?

they look like orange injectors to me.
what would orange mean?
cheers

you would have to look inside the ecu and ezk for the chips, unless its been done by a company that has put the info on the outside of the ecu

Orange injectors - found in early T5 engines... 315cc @ 3 Bar pressure

Not sure if they're supposed to be in there or if they'd be better than what's supposed to be in there.

Standard bosch # 0280 150 804 flow 310cc @ 3 bar.

Oranges not much of an upgrade but probaby better spray pattern.

I presume the oranges are high impedance injectors, what if resistors block still in place as 804s will be low impedance.

Hmm sounds possible but the problem is it didn't always have the cutting the power symptom, could explain the lumpy tickover?, then again it had a misfire when I first got it, since that's been sorted it might have uncovered the new problem

Same as smithy.......i think it`s boost cut!!

I had the 1991 Wentworth 940 2litre Turbo .... had a brand new engine fitted at Volvo in Taunton for £2000..... It had only a MBC and uprated FPR and it would boost to 12.5 and at 13 boost cut and about 3k revs

Standard boost for these is 8psi on the standard turbo which should be the Mitsubishi 13C

Even though just chipped it may not of removed the fuel cut!

Not sure what the fuel cut is like on these but I wouldn't have thaught it was all the fuel cuts iv experienced before are a sudden bang cutting the power for a split sdcond, very harsh and quick, where as this youl rev it to 6k or something and it will cut the power and will not let you rev it again untill sub 3k, also it happens by just revving it out of gear so I highly doubt it would be able to produce eneugh boost to fuel cut

The fuel cut is like hitting the brick wall until the boost drops then it will boost again.

It is sometime now about 10yrs that i messed with this motor but i do know that there is a plastic box under the dash by the steering wheel that does control the fuel cut from the ECU but it also uses a fuel cut at 6500revs to safeguard the engine. Perhaps these things want checking?

This model does not earth the spark like some engines!!.....to protect it.

I have just been going through some details and just a check you could do for the idle as it costs nowt and it may idle better???

Try reading any error codes and post them up......far the best way to find a fault!

I now have another newer 940 so will try swap some parts over and find out what's causing it :)

I know one of the previous owners ;), M335 plate. I recognised it by the turbo pic with the baby blue ish hotpipe ;). Good car but i know it had some issues running too much boost (blew out a headgasket twice and had the head rebuild, new head wasn't allowed to run in and so it happened again).
It did have uprated AFM and brown injectors, quite recent new clutch and jap style exhaust. But then again that was 6 months back :p

Who brad? :p Did the head gasket get done again the second time it went? Either way iv started breaking the car and using all the good bits on the new one, it has a large maf buy didn't know wether it was much better or out, still got it tho...didn't look in best condition like so was going to just get a new one for the new car, migt wouldn't have a clue what clutch it was do you? Might put it on the new one if it's any good, cheers for info btw it's good to have some background on the car
