View Full Version : Mid-Winter Detail....

I've been out today and given the T5 a bit of a treat - a mid-winter Detail lasting 5 hours.

I wasn't too fussy underneath but I've washed it down, removed the tar spots, full clay bar session, machine polished the paintwork with some Meguires Ultimate Polish (Pre-waxing glaze), then finished it off with some Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax. Then I blacked the tyres with the last dregs of my Endurance Tyre Gel, AutoGlym trim restorer on the exterior plastic, white vinegar for the windows and a vacuum around inside.

All in all, not bad for a mid-winter session.

There aren't that many Gun Metal Grey V70's about, most seem to be silver, red or dark blue.

Looks very smart, although im not a fan of the Deep crystal canuaba wax from Meguirs, wen the sun hits it just looks smeary.

She's looking very fresh mate :)

I don't seem to have much of an issue with the smear. The Meguires Ultimate Wax tends to be very hard to remove and I often find I have to buff the car over with the Ultimate Quick Detailer to get the final finish how I want it and to remove the 'cloudiness' the wax seems to leave behind.

It's going to rain but at least the car has had a good polish and wax to bring it back to standard. It'll also be easier to reclean now as well!

Looking good. I haven't cleaned the V70 since the crash, I have no motivation for it. Maybe when the weather gets better my attitude will change.

put stupidly thin oil in. cant remember the exact grade but i suspect its doing more harm than good. but james is a big boy and will take it on the chin if he causes any long term damage to the engine

Noticed lots of grit on the roads today, and I'd just got Gul out as well.

I just couldn't stand the salty gritty look on it any longer. Plus my back window now get very dirty, very quickly since my rear wiper motor has decided to take early retirement.

It was zero twenty grade and the engine is fine as the guys at the Shrewsbury meet will no doubt be able to testify next week..... ;)

I think when you do drop the oil when it's at running temp I think you will be supprised how thin it is,when I changed my oil did a hot drain , it came out like water and that was 0w30 so went up to 5w40 engine sounds a lot better at tick over.

Can I ask what made you think about putting a 0w20 oil in, did someone suggest it?
I've only just started stocking it as it's only the latest Ford engines that are specifying it

While its winter and if your only doing short journeys, the 0-20 won't do the engine any damage in the short term. Its when your doing longer journeys and when its hot that the oil will be like water.

How long has it been in?

I beg to differ, it doesn't take long for the engine to get to normal operating temperature so if it was me I'd get it out ASAP.

James, I've just found and read the thread about the oil. Seriously your on a kamikaze mission if you leave that oil in any longer. Please change it before you do any more mileage.
