A potental Essex meet location

Finally found a suitable replacement location for the VPC Essex community meet.

Today Gav (Merc85), my brother (JimS70R) and I decided to go take a look at a pub in Eight Ash Green as a possible meeting spot for the forthcoming Essex community as it's been too long since our last one in 2013 at the Dick Turpin in Basildon. Gav and I had a chat with the owner, who appears to drive a C70 T5, and expressed an interest in holding forthcoming meets at his pub. He is more than happy to cater for us and if numbers are high enough and the occassion requires it will even corden off an area of the car park and an area inside the pub, for bad weather meets, so we can all park and sit together. He already has a few clubs who descend to his premises of an evening and understands that most car enthusiasts are good for business. He did point out that should respect not be shown to his neighbours and the surrounding quiet village that he would have no choice but to ban us from the premises, this means no anti social driving or loud stereo demonstrations to name a few. I have assured him that we Volvo owners aren't idiots or houlagans, well most of us anyway, so provided we are behaved a location has been sourced. We have suggested to him that as previously the meet would usually occur on the 2nd Sunday of the month with the first being either in March or subject to enough interest February.

So the location in question is the Cricketers in Eight Ash Green just on the outskirts of Colchester, I realise this isn't on the doorstep of those who have previously joined us for the meets at the Dick Turpin but the car park is huge the pub is extremely clean, well presented, roomy, easily accessible and the surrounding area is quiet. Despite many requests to seek another location nobody came up with anything so here is the 1st suggestion, Gav, James and I all feel this location would be a great for us all , the food also looks good for those who maybe interested ;)

This is the pubs website if you could please take a look and those interested or otherwise please let me know your thoughts. Provided we have a majority acceptance all we need to do is let the landlord know whether it will be February or March that we will start attending :)

What a great opening to the possible location, i really do think this location could be a great venue, large carpark frendly peeps and easily found just of the a12, just need some vpcuker's to show some interest in supporting the essex section of the club.

Suggested Dates in keeping with the 2nd sunday of the month.

9 Febuary, or 9 of March if enough interest both, and fingers crossed regular from then on

Come on peeps if nothing else be a good chance to give your Volvo's a run :)

The pub is indeed very nice and homely, the landlord and staff seem very friendly and welcome the idea of a car club. The carpark is just perfect to hold many Volvos with a beer garden to the side should the sun join us at some point!!

Only 200mile round trip for me... Count me in to bolster the numbers..

Although I wouldn't over estimate the attendance with the landlord.. Some southerners meets only have 3 or so members and no one stopped for food at our last meet which is the bread and butter of the pub.

i used to race an old yz400 on the beach under the orwell bridge must have been 20 years ago

Ok peeps we have decided the 1st Essex meet will be on the Sunday 9th of March, and if sucessful every 2nd Sunday of the month thereafter.

Sunday 9th of March comencing 1.00pm onwards, please feel free to edit the list, i will Bump/or Start a thread confirming the numbers/peeps attending closer the time, but here it is as i understand it atm.

Just to confirm we're planning to meet on the 9th March and are in a position where we need to give the landlord a heads up on numbers can we safely say that all whom agreed to attend are still available so we can use those as a rough numbers guide :)

I had a proper car day today, started at 08:30:
1. Pulled a few more bits off the VW and sold the CAT within 5minutes of listing it on eBay.
2. Delivered a bonnet, wings and headlight.
3. Essex meet - nearly got banned within 5 minutes of being there..(naughty boy..)
4. Stopped at Gary's(Siamblue) to strip a few bits for the S40..

I'm not back yet and I'm in work for 01:00... Caffeine time!!

hahaha he had a hose pop off on the way,so made a quick repair,gave it a little rev to make sure it stayed on and before the revs settled a member of staff came out and told him off!! it was quite amusing :D
