On full lock (either way) have a grinding and knocking sound from the front, can't pinpoint it. Anyone else had this problem? Any ideas?

Always difficult to diagnose other peeps interpretation of noises, but outer CV joints comes to mind along with power steering pump which is on full load at full lock had this a few times, try testing with bonnet up.

850? it was a common prob if so, to do with the angles of the cv joints (I have a 850 manufacturers training manual which talks about this...)

could be the steering lock stops, they should be greased.

have you changed wheels or tyres,
is the noise since this or any other work carried out on the car,
if so then it mite be tyres touching inner wing liners,
,,,,,,,,maybe,,,,,,,,,

Reckon its the CV joints still as theres not a lot of difference in reality between early 70's and late 850's.
CV joints are prone to lots of little crunchy noises even when relatively new.

Someone will have to hear it to get it right but CV's most likely. if it is on full lock only then dont worry too mutch about it.

Does sound like CV joints to me as well. Is it only on full lock, or can you almost feel a rumble up from the floor of the car as well?

On the otherhand I had a knocking noise on mine on full lock, turned out to be the suspension top mounts and drop links. Worth getting Hamish to have a look?
