looking into ways of getting the 850 back to mine. its roughly 45 miles away. one option is to get temp insurance other is tow it.

why do you think it can't be towed? put it in neutral

im sure i once read that autos cant be towed and if they are then they need the drive wheels off the ground. if i can be towed it would save me a few quid.

I don't think you can tow an auto mate :(

Some can, some can't. Some when they are towed have to stay under certain speeds. As for the neutral suggestion, then I've not known anyone that's done it, so if you want to be the first...............unless Frankie has already tried it.

Short distance up to 30mph is ok but 45miles is too far

i heard its something to do with lubrication. the oil only circulates when the car is in drive

Don't tow an auto unless the driven wheels are off the ground.

I think your right, and if I remember correctly the 4spd t4 had to be towed under 15mph. Not sure if its the same for the 4spd 850s though.

The gear selector has to be in N and max towing speed is 10mph and for 20miles max.only.

However because the oil only circulates when the engine is turning the pump why not if you can start it then tow it!!.....your not driving it your still towing.

Can you not just pay someone to deliver it?..there's loads of firms advertise on ebay at so much a mile, cant see it being too expensive if it's only 40 odd miles away.

If the engine isn't running on the tow car, it's not going to tow anything anywhere. lol

Its to do with the torque converter oil pressure and valves in the auto box.

Don't tow an auto without the driven wheels off the ground or the engine running with the box in neutral unless it's literally round the corner and at slow speeds as you will kill the box! Best and safest route is to always have the driven wheels off the ground imho.

For clarification the owners handbook states that an auto must only be towed up to a maximum speed of 10mph for a maximum of 20 miles
