Hi Guys,

Wondering if anybody can confirm if 16" alloys will clear the calipers on my S60 T5? (2005 facelift model).
They look pretty tight on my 17"s but 'think' they should be okay.
Does anyone have 1st hand experience?

....yes, doing the winter tyres thing, with precious cargo on board, I want the extra safety....

Thanks

Since it's a facelift, I'm guessing you have 320mm disks...

Not 100% but I doubt it. I'm pretty sure you couldn't use 16" wheels with the old 305mm setup.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

A bit of an introduction wouldn't hurt... you've been here over a year ;)

Standard T5s were fitted with 16" alloys. I have had an old Metis wheel on the front with no issues.

I'm on a 2001 P2 V70 T5 with standard calipers on 320mm discs.

I'm told if you upgrade to a higher size then 17" is the minimum.

Just double checked,

302mm (305mm I thought) is 16" minimum,
320mm-330mm for a 17" minimum alloy.

302 is P1/850 mate ;)

You can put 336 under 17" wheels too but it's tight.

This also confused me... "2001 P2 with standard calipers on 320 disks" the standard caliper on the 2001 didn't fit on the 320 disk - that's the facelift caliper (big, meaty mofo).

Thanks for the replies guys, although I'm still not 100% about whether I can go 16".
I seemed to remember that the facelifted T5's had "upgraded brakes" which I presumed meant either a larger disc or caliper on the fronts. I must admit, there does seem to be more than 1/2" between the current wheel rim and caliper so I'd be surprised if there wasn't the room.
I guess the best way to try is to get hold of a 16" S60 alloy and offer it up. Seem to be able to get a single one on ebay for very little.

Apologies for not introducing myself:redface:

I bought my T5 off my dad last summer as a practical upgrade from my Clio 182 now that we have a little one.
My dad was the 2nd owner and kept it garaged and well serviced so I figured it was a good buy. I must admit that it took quite a while for me to really warm to it.Smooth and quick but felt a bit large and soft after the Clio. Gradually, it has won me over though, and a remap from HLM has helped with that!

The spec of the car is a bit of a strange one; non leather seats, sunroof, boot spoiler, 17" wheels and a pretty bland champagne colour.
I live in London but bike to work so the car is pretty much used for long motorway journeys which it is obviously well suited to, and I get 35mpg average on a 75mph cruise which I think is damn good.

My dad swapped this car for an 07, lower mileage model, silver, 18" wheels, leather. He grew up in Brit cars, and suffered the BL era, so is paranoid by high mileage. He sold me his at 42,000 miles thinking that it would start to suffer...

42k is barely run-in mate :) and the MPG sounds like a healthy car too.

Knowing what calipers you have, I recon there's a 20% chance a 16" wheel will fit. Like I said, I have 336mm disks and the same calipers and they barely fit under 17" wheels.

Just to add on the S60R the 17 pegasus rims & 330mm disks only clear the calipers by about 4-5 mm you need to have the thin lead weights fitted for balance or they will hit the calipers.

loads of room there, dont know what all the fuss was about. might even squeeze 330mm discs in there

I was considering going bigger but took into account my 16" will be used as winters and the 17" Orpheus as summers

Here is a link someone passed onto me, it has info about whether it clears certain brakes or not which is quite handy, although it does actually say Mimas wheels won't clear T5 brakes after 2005 so isn't necessarily correct!
