I thought it was about time i started a project thread for my V70 2.5T.

I bought this car 1st March 2010 from LUTON im the 3rd owner of this car, the first being Bedfordshire police force using it as a training car, the second owner was an elderly gent who just pottered around in it until it developed an engine fualt.

At which point i bought the car for £350 plus my Peugeot 406 2.1TD Estate with 12 hours MOT left on it.

At this point i had done some research and was hoping it was just an ETM fault, no such luck, it turned out to be cylinder 3 had no compression, so i sourced an identical engine with full history and just 34k miles done.

At the time of the engine swap i also replaced the water pump, timing belt, auxillary belt, V70R clutch, Scorpion stainless exhaust, spark plugs, oil and filter, fuel filter and pcv system.

Soon after some T5 alloys were purchased from a member on here (Pacman) and also a strut brace was fitted along with the projector headlamps as my headlamps were terrible and one lense was cracked

Nice motor I really liked my v70 2.5t and it was very quick too with just a remap .the torque was wild .then I rebuilt the engine with a couple of extra mods then it really moved .

this was quickly followed by V70 2002 T5 alloys Amaltheas 23002

And more recently i have had a C70 rear axle fitted with new brake lines from front to back, braided brake lines 302mm front discs and Ferrodo ds2500 pads all round.
I also fitted a 16T with white injectors and wound the boost upto 9.5psi which took the power upto approx 240bhp.

In the last few weeks i have changed wheels again for V50 T5 alloys running 235 40 18 rears and 225 40 18 fronts with 5mm spacer on fronts, soon to be replaced with 10mm spacers and camber bolts

with the most recent mod being a V70R front bumper and full V70R interior getting rid of the horrible beige seats being replaced with nice black230032300423005

just a little update, i bought a K24 a few months ago and have slowly been getting all the other hardware together too do the conversion, ie S60R exhaust manifold V50 T5 one piece exhaust gasket water pipe gaskets oil pipe gaskets green injectors water pipes oil pipes and intercooler.

Fortunatly for me i have a very good mate who owns a garage so we set about swapping the turbo and associated hardware on friday night, not a straight forward job on a P1 V70 as i was led too believe, lots of mods required.

It took us about 1.5 hours too remove the 16T and manifold, then the fun began, V50 T5 exhaust gasket needs one of the corners triming too fit correctly (where the part number is) easy enough and we had the manifold on within an hour, next came the K24, it wouldnt locate on the manifold due too the water pipe that runs at the back of the engine as it ha 2 take offs one for the heater matrix and one for the turbo, the turbo take off was the problem, at this point it was 3am on Saturday and after lots of head scratching and swearing we decided too call it a night with a plan hatched.

Onto Saturday, up at 8am and down too the local motor factor too get some water pipe, didnt sell it in the right size, so onto next motor factor, they had 3 different ones, i only needed approx 3" straight piece, one was £19 shaped item and the other from some unknown car was offered at £2 so i took it with the appropriate jubilee clips, anyway we cut the offending pipe and rejoined it, hey presto K24 now fits.

Only 2 of the pipes from S60R/T5 fit as they should, oil return pipe and top metal water pipe too turbo, the other 2 needed modifying in some way which took a lot of time.

Too cut a long story short we eventually finished the turbo install at approx 8pm tonight with one of Graeme Weche's 3" MAF too turbo pipes. Big thanks too Graeme for sorting this pipe so quickly for me.

Finally we did a full oil and filter change and we did a final check for any leeks, none found so my mate took it for a quick blast up the road and feck me it looked very quick and sounded completly different too the 16T fitted car. Then i took it for a spin and was shocked at how quick it was and was even more shocked too see 25psi, where the hell has boost/fuel cut gone?????

Due too the insanely SMALL download limits i cant upload all the latest pics showing the new turbo, intercooler and pipework!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway here are some pics:

Good to see someone going a different route to the normal t5 route. Are you not supposed to lower the compression?

Anyway a small update, issues have been found as my car is plod training car, well after lots of investigation work and parts i have replaced it turns out plod have the R map installed as standard. On top of this with me fitting the R clocks it has caused conflicts in the mapping so i now need to fit the standard clocks back in too get the final map sorted. The issue is Rick cant get the boost or timing advance stabalised because of the conflict between the ecu and R clocks.

Unlike the earlier motronic 4.3/4.4 where you can change the clocks without issue it appears you cant on the ME7 models, even on Vida Dice when plugged in with the R clocks in it comes up with the VIN of the original R and auto awd so there must be some software in the clocks somewhere.

So unfortunatly wont get the car back or results until new year now

Whats the point of the police fitting the "R" map on your car, as its a different engine and turbo? Where they being numpties or did it actually give an increase in performance?

havent got a clue mate, im just going on what Volvo told me, altho when i put it up against my mates T5 it was quicker off the line but the T5 pulled it back at higher speeds/revs. I know my other mate Andy has just fitted an R ecu too his V70 awd and its made a difference

Fantastic on a stock lump using lowish boost. The high compression ratio probably helps get the high power at such low boost. The mapper probably had rod prssevation in mind when he mapped your car. Tcode ran 400bhp on a stock t4 lump which most people thought was impossible. Just mapped the boost to come in later. Im glad to see your results as they prove what can be done rather than the usual internet hearsay.

All down too the mapping Gav, if you look at the graph its very linear and stable thro out the rev range, plus the boost doesnt really hit peak until 3250rpm so should be safe

just a little update:

Jan 23rd i got the call i didnt want to hear lol, Rick phoned and told me he had been playing some more with my car but had to change some parts, MAF sensor, spark plugs, Turbo control valve and air filter. The reason for the air filter was because it was restricting air slow!!!!!!!!! Fekkin pile of ££££e BSR crap.

Anyway he was just doing the final few runs and had got near as damn it 360whp or approx 420bhp, not bad for a lowly 2.5T lol, but then on the second to last run it spun a crank shell so is now making a nice knocking sound from the bottom end.

These things happen lol, so i was straight onto Tim Williams who is in the process of finding me either a S60R/V70R 2.5 engine or a 2.4T5 engine and then going from there, so i awaite news from Tim. Fortunatly he can build the engine for me without having the car there, there will be a few more mods added at the same time but they will be revealed later, lets just say it will be able to put the power down and the gearbox and clutch will be well upto the job!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well another little update, called into AET today and Rick has a couple of well deserved days off, so had a look at what extra's had been fitted, first off a massive 86mm MAF sensor (new) apparently capable of flowing enough air for well over 500bhp as a result combined with Graeme Welch's 3" MAF to turbo pipe is now flowing a massive 22% more air over standard, secondly the ITG air filter is about 3 times the size if the crappy BSR unit also capable of well over 500bhp.

Looking forward to getting my 'R' engine built up and fitted by Mr Tim Williams to see exactly what it will produce.

So guys watch this space lol
