Just wondering what sort of power can standard clatches take and is there a SMF avalable for these or can you fit something else?I know the stock one cost a lot of money,near 1G I believe.With a remap what can you achieve with a stage 1 map and stock exhaust and as I hear about cracked housing on these what causes that?

Martin (M R P) has just had his p2 t5 remapped at hlm and saw good gains on his base bhp.
Rica or bsr website will give you ideas of what to expect from remaps

Autotec map sees these engines past 320bhp.
Smf conversion is about 400 quid. I got a LUK dmf for 370 quid. The only difference between the standard clutch and the R clutch appears to be the springs.

Apparently you need greens going 320bhp+,just want to hear a personal experience ideal with a dyno chart.

I thought he'd just done a live data logging program. Don't recall seeing. anything about a map. but then I'm not on there much.

at the time it had tgi filter 200 cell and exhaust and a fmic. it also had a dodgy lamda to which showed up as soon as it was mapped. it drove much better when i replaced it. since then ive added a few more toys which if anything have sharpened throttle responce.

Now I`ve driven her properly for the 1st time and in gears 2,3,4 as from 1500rpm she pulls similar to a diesel so is this how it suppose to be as stock?As far as I know before sale they put a stock sofware back on ex-plods or am I wrong?

I think what it is mate is that it's sitting so high up, remember oxygen is thinner the higher the altitude !

thats how they are. useable power throughout the rev range. 40mph in 6th and they still pull hard

I see.It makes it more relaxing to drive without down shifting to accelerate.Even urban gear change at 2000k like you do on diesels is very good,absolutely loving it.

That's why I love big v8s. 60mph@1500rpm in top and it would still pull.

I can't remember if i've been in a 2.4t5, but my 540 drove quite a bit differently to the 2.3 s60t5s I've driven. But the 2.4 does have a few bits that are different to the 2.3, the turbo for a start, maybe the k24 is less laggy the ones in the 2.3.

M-R-P
Sunday 17th November 2013, 22:33
the 2.4 is a lot less laggy and the blower can be turned up a lot too.

You've got the wrong end of the stick, I said I recommend greens or vxr's as it appears the greens get pushed hard at 330 bhp. I also said you should look at the OE setup for a big clue, meaning the 300BHP R's came with greens.

A dyno print is one thing but no-where do I see injector opening time or duty cycle. For all you know they could be running at 120%!! Also target AFR and actual AFR can give a clue but we don't see that either.

I know of a few R's that have run out of injector running a hybrid K24 on greens. Fuel pump duty cycle is another variable but I reckon it's close to 100% pump duty cycle and very high injector DC at 330bhp @ 5500rpm on blues, conjecture of course but have a look and do the maths.

I have a BNIB TTV DMF replacement. I was going to use it on my rebuild but now will send it back to Dom @Kalmer Union unless you want it. It's a DMF solid replacement so you will need a sprung clutch friction plate to go with it.

Glossary of Terms (apologies for using too many TLAs)
BNIB = Brand New in Box
TTV = Racing parts company - http://ttvracing.com/
DMF = Dual Mass Flywheel
TLA = Three letter abbreviations.

They don't map plod cars mate (except in very special situations like SCO response cars but it's very rare) they just remove the speed limiters. The later engines are designed not to feel like a turbo, so you won't get that kick-up-the-bum as it pulls through the revs that you get with the older cars.
