It will all be fine when it's ground back Looks OK to me, Ive seen 'Specialists' charge £££ for welding that looks worse than that, Doesnt matter what it looks like so long as its got good penetration, Small bit of time as you say with a disc and it will look sorted.

Its nice when you put a weld down that dosnt need dressing though. Ive worked with lads who spend more time grinding there welds than what they do welding. Not what you expect from a skilled welder.

A good weld looks ok coz it penetrated both pieces that are being weld. Pigeon ££££ welding has no penetration.

Well after a couple of weeks forced brake from the project (Turbo failure in the T-5R and too much work) I hope to crack on this week so at last I've finished welding up the rear OS, Turret and most of the Front OS (can't finish until I get the subframe back off)

Not quite over yet, but a good go tomorrow should have it done, then next week, strip the subframe, give it a coat of paint, refit everything, sort out the steering rack, fit the new wishbones and coilovers and refit the engine (sounds easy when you say it quickly...lol)

Today, I have been mostly playing with Engine dampers, decided to make the brackets up on the T-5R and test it, then when the T10 is all done I'll either swap it over or make another one.
The main reason for this is, because when I accelerate hard on a left hand bend, the supercharger pulley hits the chassis.

Initial report is that there is no more engine noise transmitted, I'll see if it makes any difference next week at Avon, but my guess would be that it must make a difference, the front of the T5k engine moved up more than an inch for the Supercharger to hit the chassis, so if it can just stop that I'll be happy, and all for 35 quid.

I hope so

a question I nearly asked before - will it require a SVA or similar to be road legal?
to my (very limited) knowledge it used to work on a points system when it is a modified rather than kit car based on what is changed engine, gearboxes, axles etc.

stop press** how will it pass the emissions tests with twice the gas quantity registered for that model at the mot :rotfl: - can you get away with only starting one engine ?
answering that one will be down to special circumstances consultation by the tester to vosa

Hopefully the rad and intercooler will sit at an angle in front of the engine and behind the front seats, air will then be ducted out through the rear passenger window.

roof scoop will be used to duct air into the turbo to supercharger intercooler which will be mounted onto the inside of the roof, if that makes sense.

Points
Chassis, monocoque bodyshell (body and chassis as one unit) or frame - original or new and unmodified (direct from manufacturer) 5
Suspension (front and back) - original 2
Axles (both) - original 2
Transmission - original 2
Steering assembly - original 2
Engine - original 1

As you need 8 points or higher, do you not lose points for your rear suspension by going Macpherson at the rear as well. (it may be Volvo 850 front suspension but it's not originally in the rear) TBH I can't see how the rear axle is the same either? other than you still have two I guess?

I wouldn't be surprised if it has to have a Q plate, I know you've only used the front engine part of the other vehicle but it doesn't specify 50% of each to be classed as a cut n shut.

Get a ‘Q’ registration number as there is definite evidence of two cars being welded together,
You won’t be able to keep your vehicle’s original registration number if 1 of the following applies:
it has fewer than 8 points
it has a second-hand or altered chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame
there’s evidence that 2 vehicles have been welded together to form 1 (ie ‘cut and shut’)

Your vehicle must pass the relevant type approval test to get a ‘Q’ prefix registration number.

Hope this doesn't come across a criticism, if what you've done is acceptable then I have no worries about my V40.

It shouldnt get a Q plate as it already has a registration, I thought Q plates where only used when the majority of the parts on the car have come from several different vehicles and there is no original registration to base it on?.. ie. kit cars.. As yours is already registered you should be able to keep your current reg... Shouldn't you?

It wont necessarily stay like that as the tanks are also quite high, but it's a solution until I've got everything running, then I'll revisit the problem and probably have a custom tank made to fit between the bulkhead and engine.
