Hi Peeps,

Not sure if this is of any interest to any of you.

Basically Vmaxx is an event that essentially allows you to take your car up to its top speed. The guys that run it have offered to organise more events for car clubs and I was wondering how much interest there would be for it here as I'm quite tempted. The Vmaxx organisers are looking to start arranging things for 2014 and I'm going to ask them if they'd do one for a Volvo club but I'll need to know numbers first :)

The event is usually organised at Bruntingthorpe air field so relatively central in terms of location, I know its an expensive event to organise for a singular vehicle but may work out of reasonable expense for a decent sized group :)

Think of it as a 1/4 event for big boys :)

Let me know what you guys think :)

Andy

Is this over a set distance or just till either the runway runs out or the car goes bang?

Looking at this the runway looks big enough so maybe the latter

Id be up for this. From what I understand the runway isn't long enough to actually hit your top speed. My S70 was mapped on Bruntingthorpe. I wasn't there, but I believe managed to it just shy of 160mph before having to slow down. But I'd still fancy seeing what the R would do.

Bruntingthorpe has the longest runway in the UK, having been a US airbase housing B52 bombers :)

The R's geared to over 180, not sure what it'll do in the available space though.

mine will do 207mph@6500rpm, can't see the aerodynamics letting it get to that lol

Geared to yes but electronically limited to 155 :slap:

Hmmm... no limiter.... I need a remap, I might actually get on a leaderboard... I'll have to tell the missus I'm off to Reading again...

info for you - the police took a p2 to 168 fully loaded after a few laps momentum on an oval . completely standard t5 unlimited.

the guys who went on the s60 launch play days when they first came out managed 154 with wing mirrors folded out, and 156 with them in . this was with the cars 4 up at bruntingthorpe on the straight.
and they got through a lot of tyres - every car had them changed twice a day i believe and top speed dramatically reduces the lifetime of a tyre.

make sure your tyres are high quality and 100% before trying to max out speed , a failure at those sort of speeds cannot be controlled !

there might be a volvo software to remove the limiter on p2- i remember it being a £250 factory option.

it isnt the getting there that i doubt for smithy, even with bigger brakes it is the stopping. they just dont do alot over 150mph initially you can run out of space very quickly.

he cant go too fast, or he might disappear in a trail of flame into 2032

this was the launch of the P3 S60, only last year (or the year before). "Naughty S60 track day" they called it

ah ok, the amount of used tyres they had stacked up, i doubt the current budget would cover it again!
the good old days when we got racing, helicopter lessons (yes i did on the xc90 launch day) and a free jacket to everyoutside course just in case it rained are gone.

now its all online learning

If I remember correctly my standard 850 indicated just shy of 150 on the straight..so about 135-140 if corrected..

I don't think a P1 could pass 159 but willing to try! I've had about 148 on the er 'straight' with my loong ratio box. Would be up for this, hope I'm not working when the time comes

Is this over a set distance or just till either the runway runs out or the car goes bang?

From what I've seen of the previous events it looks like you go from 0 to what ever you can get up the straight to the upper corner, then you drive back down the other side hanging it round the lower corner and gun it up the straight as quickly as you can for the top speed run but could be wrong...

Right so, got a little excited about the idea after I posted so decided to contact the Vmax organisers anyway. So the response back was promising but I think the response has created a couple of large hurdles...

1st, the event is usually organised for around 40 cars... However they are happy to amalgamate a number or smaller groups to make up the 40 cars and they'll do the running around for that, all we need to do is get our names and numbers confirmed.

2nd, think this is the killer... It's circa £250.00 for the event, that includes all fire marshals, health and safety and on site ambulance, correct level of staffing supplied and all timing gear etc supplied. Tbh I expected this as I'm aware of the costs for hiring Bruntingthorpe from previous events I'm aware of. I'm still personally interested and intend on seeing what Damien can do once I've got it back.

If your still interested then I'm starting a list to get an idea of numbers, once we've got a list I'll contact the organisers and see what they suggest but I have already replied stating I'm sure I won't get to the level of numbers that are required to attend for a 1 manufacturer session based on those who will attend from the VPC community.

On the plus side they seemed quite keen to organise an event for Volvo's apparantely one of the organisers wife's is Swedish :)

Please copy and paste the below to your response so we can keep a running total for numbers.

Last time I enquired it was around £7,500 for 1/2 days track hire and that was a good few years ago and was only for the hire of the track if I can remember correctly..
