I used to rave about vredestein ultracs - but then they got bought out and their Indian parent company added about 30% to the price. These days I think my Falkens are pretty damn good.

Whats the story on Nexen tyres I have them on the back of v70 T5 and they seem really good in the dry, a liitle bit slippy in the wet but just about to change the wheels for winter. They seem to get slagged off a lot but tbh I quite like them . Just wondered what the opinion of true speed freaks is on these.

I've got three manufacturers on my shortlist for a full set of 225/45/17 boots next month:

Avon ZV5 XL
Hankook Ventus V12 Evo
Dunlop Sport 01A XL

Pushing towards the Hankooks at the moment....

Far better than I expected them to be mate. I've had Barum Bravuris 2, P-Zero Rosso and ZV5 on the Sweed and the Avons are a better all rounder by a country mile. Quiet too.

very good place to see what tyre. theres a top list on bottom of page etc etc
uniroyal rainsport 2 would be a good choice for wet useage

im using nexen n6000 now and have no reason to choose anything else tbh. theyr an awsome tyre imo

I've often found those reviews to be a bit unhelpful. The likelihood of the review being based on a powerful fwd car with 70% of it's weight being over the front axle is pretty slim.

That's where threads like this come in hadny (there's been quite a few too) you get real world opinions of the tyres based on them being used on the same or similar cars.

i understand what your saying but lots of point of views are better than one person going 'arr i use round tyres- theyr good yar'

I also think an important point is to ensure the tyre has an XL load rating ensuring a stiffer side wall.

Most tyres come in either standard or XL, the XL tyres cost a few quid more.

I've had a full set of Avon ZV5 on a different car before and they were great!
They don't have a very good looking sidewall though if you're fussy lol but they were fab in the wet!

Falken ZE912 proved to be quite capable mind on the C70 when I got it, they look good too ;)

I've got Yokohama Parada Spec 2 tyres on my 850 and the grip levels when dry are phenomenal, when wet they're still good although I had GSD3's on my old car and they were brilliant in the wet. Another tyre worth considering for wet weather performance is a Uniroyal very good wet weather performance from those.

Are those ZV5s XL Martin as they look under inflated.....I'll definately be fitting tyres with XL for the re-enforced sidewalls.

Yep XL, it was at 29psi when I checked it later, normally I run 38 all round. The ground slopes there making it look a lot worse than it was.

I Run Michelin Pilot Sport 2's they are the best of all the tyres I have used, in second place are the Dunlop's mentioned by Woody.
I would say the Prada spec 2's where in second place for the grip levels, but come the weather and the Dunlop's win in the wet, so for that reason they come 3rd for me, I have had Eagle f1's to but they just didn't last even though the levels of grip where similar to the prada's but I did not get to play with them in the wet as they only lasted the summer.

i tried a few different front tyres on the 850 and finally settled on Hankook ventus v12's. excellent grip and ride quality for the price. Seemed to suit the roads up here well

Yeah, I'm a bit weird like that, not keen on the little ridged lines in those blocks either side of the 'Avon ZV5'.

It doesn't matter one bit I know (and tbh in Martin's pic they don't look as bad as I remember).

Like I said, I'm bloody weird!

Ive run mitchelin pilot sport for years and they are the best tyre ive used there not bad in the wet but brilliant in the dry and there the only tyre that lasts for me when i first got the t5 i went through a few sets if cheeper tyres all were buggered around 3-4k miles so since then ive moved over to mitchelin they are expensive but there not in the long run as they last more than double the time cheeper tyres do

2nd what greg says on the eagle f1s only lasted around 4k on front of my t5r was going to try the asymmetric as they are conventional pattern instead of directional as directional seem to wear quicker in any brand imo......have zv5s now if im honest look a little chunky on the front of an 850 well to me anyway...guess im fussy about how tyre look too drives me mad when a car isnt running 4x same tyres lol

I must be light footed compared to some of you guys, my Eagle F1's (asymmetrics) tend to last about 20 - 22K as I end up changing them once a year and that is the front tyres.

And if anybody cares, Barum are made by Continental.

Barums aren't very good if you plan to use all the power of a T5.

im onto my 2nd set of nankang ns2's theyve been spot on ride nise no road noise and plenty of grip. i also have there winter tyres and they ride as well as youd expect for a winter tyre. but man they are good when it snows. will never be with out snow tyres again

I'm a fan of Uniroyal for all round use. Rainsports or rain experts (experts having softer sidewalls). So impressed with the way they behave in the wet. Dry grip is very good too. It has transformed my daily.
